like the group of defensemen but the Flames need a center that hopefully can drive play on the first line and create offense when its needed on demand

I've been a Bjork guy for a while but the more I see of Carson Carels, the more I think the Flames would be very high on him.

Tough choice between Reid and Smits. Went with Reid, but it is splitting hairs.

Carels Reid or slight reach on Bjorck. I think Smits is good but his ceiling seems limited to me

Smits looks like a gamer to me - tools, attitude, shows up for big games, physical, tough

I want an offensive talent with the first pick, but if we take a Dman (because we're picking 6-7 and the forwards are gone), I hope its Smits

Yeah, I think his offensive ceiling is a bit limited, which is why I went with Reid, but I think he will be a #2 'do anything' defencemen. Leader/captain, physical, defensively elite, but can still move the puck well, and still contribute offensively. I think he is a really smart defencemen, but I can totally understand why some people may not be as high on him as I am. When you have defencemen that can contribute offensively at a high level on the board, maybe it is a better pick over a guy with a more limited ability. I just really like his overall game and character.

Some of you are really sleeping on Reid, I would be pretty surprised if he doesn't go in the top 5. I think it's a coin flip between him and Verhoeff as the best D in the draft.

I think that if the Flames are picking at #6 and Reid is on the board, then he's their guy. The only argument against picking Reid is that the Flames could already be set on RD.

The focus on getting a C is excessive. Lawrence has been passed in most rankings by several D.

The sentiment seems to be that the Flames are set at D going forward. I don’t see it that way. Parekh is a likely top-4. Bruz is still not a lock to stick as an NHL d-man. Bahl is a decent middle-pairing guy. Still lots of room for difference-makers on the back end, and several of them will be available at 5.

I don't want to think about a scenario where the Flames are picking 6th this season lol. That said I picked Reid because he seems like the safest pick at 6 in this scenario.
