I wonder if he's done, or if another team wants to take a flyer on him this season.

What a fall from grace being two years removed from being a point per game player to being a buy out from a team that isn’t offensively deep or struggling for cap space. I wonder if there are some locker room issues at play because otherwise it makes absolutely no sense to me. It sure makes me feel old when the young players that I watched as an adult start to become the old veterans in the league.

That is an interesting move. Can he even sign another contract this late in the season?

I can’t see a playoff team wanting him or a team on the outside of the playoffs having any interest in a veteran player. I think that the next stop is the KHL if he wants to play or a quality retirement while still being paid millions by buffalo if he so desires.

I wonder about the Kings. With Fiala out, I can see them taking a flyer on Skinner if he signs for close to league minimum.

I can’t see it, they just traded for Panarin who is a vastly better player and I don’t think you would want to have Skinner on the second line.

Let us remember though that the Oilers signed skinner which made them not have the cap space to re-sign Holloway… for which they received a third round pick.

Always. Never a defenceman, though.

Its not ideal, but is a free look at 2 LW. Don't have to spend an asset. I can see it happening.

why would Skinner agree to this, leaving ~$800K on the table? Is there more to this story?

He must think he can get a similar contract elsewhere.

Might have been told by the Sharks they plan on putting him in the AHL for the rest of the season.

We have also seen this season; Texier and Zamula mutually terminate contracts, and sign for less money with new NHL teams in exchange for better playing opportunities.

This is what I think he'll try. Sign a league minimum contract with Edmonton and try and ride a playoff into a new contract opportunity. Edmonton doesn't have too much to work with, so this a good fit for both IMO.

He played 5 playoff games, and was benched for 17. Don't see it as that good of a fit.

Skinner has made a ####load of money in his career. Perhaps, just wants to play?

It doesn't make a difference in this case but I really dislike the ability to mutually terminate unless the player permanently retires. It lets the signing team off the hook.

In this case the Sharks have lots of cap space so that's not an issue. This looks like they want to clear contract and roster spots.

He’s still getting paid by Buffalo as well. They owe him roughly $18 million over the next few years until 2030. Leaving $800k on the table is probably easier to handle if he truly isn’t happy there. I suspect some team signs him to a prorated near league minimum deal for the rest of the season.

If I had to guess sharks told him he was not in their long term plans and wouldn’t be playing much for rest of season. Not sure he was playing much before this news.
