5 Things - Flames vs. Oilers

Battle Stations

One game left before the NHL breaks for the Winter Olympics.

And what a capper for the Flames, who wrap up their pre-Olympic schedule on Scotiabank Saddledome ice with a Battle of Alberta against the Oilers. SECURE TICKETS

Monday's contest against the Maple Leafs was noisy - raucous, even - and this evening's matchup promises more of the same as Calgary looks to go into the break on a winning note.

And that 4-2 setback against Toronto nearly took a similar turn to their season-opener against Edmonton. An early three-goal deficit, followed by a furious comeback only this time, the third-period chances the Flames were able to generate just couldn't fall in.

"We have a lot of guys that battle hard in this room, we have really good leaders that lead the way," forward Joel Farabee said post-game. "There’s no quit, ever, in this locker room. I’ve always appreciated that since I’ve come here."

How an old pal has helped Zach Whitecloud feel at home with the Flames

Zach Whitecloud and Brayden Pachal were roommates in the minors. The blue-line buddies are suddenly under the same roof again

Flames centre Nazem Kadri climbs to top tier in latest Daily Faceoff trade board

Daily Faceoff’s Matt Larkin compiles the board, which includes four tiers of players that could potentially be moved by this year’s official trade deadline of Mar. 6. Landing in the top tier of “Obvious trade candidates” this week is Calgary Flames centreman Nazem Kadri, previously listed as just a “name to keep an eye on.” Kadri is now grabbing headlines, after Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported the Flames are open to moving him.

Why Flames plan to manage Parekh carefully even after impressive return

Zayne Parekh just delivered the best performance of his young NHL career, and Calgary Flames fans should savour it.

Because as good as he looked Monday night against the Maple Leafs, he won’t be playing all 27 games the rest of the way.

That’s not speculation. That’s straight from Ryan Huska, who told Sportsnet the 19‑year‑old will be on a schedule for the remainder of the season — a load‑management plan designed to protect a still‑growing defenceman from a punishing stretch that includes 16 games in March alone.

I think Parekh will be in. Edmonton has dirty players but no real headhunters I think.

Flames were better vs. the Leafs, Wild, and Sharks...there is no reason they can't win this one

If the Flames sink another dagger into an overconfident but ailing oilers team, I could see Knob getting the boot.

He was reaching for excuses after last night. Desperation setting in.

If they don't win I hope the Flames at least take a pound of flesh with them out of this one. F### the Oilers

I doubt the league will allow their darlings to lose this many in a row. Expect a lot of Pig PPs. It is OK to win this one, Flames, so give it your best.

Flames have been struggling with their puck management the last few games. If that continues tonight they could get themselves in trouble nice and early. That said the Flames have been playing mean for the last week so we will see if the Oilers got the memo to keep their heads up.

#### the Oilers. Pause the tank for tonight and steamroll these chumps

Nice of Klapper to lift Lombo up so he could see over the boards.

Trent Frederic has 3 points in 55 games for the Oilers. He's signed for 7 more seasons after this one. Woops!

On pace for 4.5 points this season. So the oilers are paying him 850K per point.
