Flames Rasmus Andersson tells all about his emotional departure from Flames

Quote:
The beginning of the end didn’t happen in a rink, a meeting room, or a contract negotiation.

It happened at a wedding.

Four days away from last summer’s NHL Draft, Rasmus Andersson was celebrating his best friend’s big moment when his phone buzzed with the call that cemented the notion his days with the Flames were numbered.

A trade was lined up, the Los Angeles Kings wanted him, and the Flames were ready to move him. But Andersson, still recovering from a difficult season and unsure where, or if, he wanted to commit long‑term, wasn’t ready to sign.

“I told Connie (Flames GM Craig Conroy) ‘I understand the business side of it, and you have a great offer for me, but at this moment if you really want to trade me I’ll give you a list of seven teams that I would re-sign with,’” said Andersson of the sobering news that his ten-year ride with the Flames organization would be coming to an end.

Definitely won’t be booing him when he returns. Guy was a beast for us and still tried to do the right things on the way out.

Pretty naive to ask what the fans wanted. The fans wanted the best possible return, which likely would have been Boston's offer.

If what he says is true though, I can see the frustration with the Bruins going cold.

I would be pretty annoyed if people give him a hard time when he is back in Calgary. Dude was a great Flame.

Yeah, you can't ask for more from a guy than what he gave to the org, and tried to do the right thing on the way out. Too many moving pieces during a season and he was giving up some leverage by trying to find a way to sign with a limited number of teams that had legit offers.

We got a fair, perhaps even better than fair, return. He'll get to explore UFA and go where he wants for the deal he wants.

It's rare that it's a win-win for the team and a departing player but this is about as close as it gets.

There is absolutely nothing "naive" about his position or comments at all.

He's pretty arrogant about the whole thing, for a guy who had limited protection and received an offer that would've given his family multi generational wealth and put him in the 20 best paid defencemen in the NHL. And he is not in the 20 best defencemen in the NHL, he's not even a No.1 on most teams.

And yes it is naive to expect fans of the club who developed Fatmus Sandwhichson to kiss the ring on his way out.

Lots of class in that piece.

If you can't see it, it probably says more about you than Andersson.

He didn't apologize for the Edm playoff series...

I will let it go... one day! lol Love you Ras!

Now please tank the season for Vegas so we can get a top 5 2026 1st round pick!!
I'll give you a pass for last night for beating the Canucks. lol

I'm sure him and Noah will do better this time around against McDavid and Drai.

I would be shocked if he got boos. He has been one of the more likable and personable Flames from the last decade, quite honestly.

He never demanded a trade leaving Conroy scrambling, and he didn't disparage the organization, the city or the fans on his way out. I don't see any reason to boo him. I hope he does really well and gets a big bag.

Just hoping that Vegas takes a nosedive, fails to make the playoffs, and then win the lottery and move up 10 spots. If they make the playoffs, then I will hope for them to go all the way and win another cup, and have Andersson win the Conn Smythe which will assure him of a huge bag. LoL

He was on the ice for 11 GA in that series at 5v5, with an XGA of 4.5.

His on ice save percentage was .770

I'm not sure that was all his fault.

Did you watch that effing series??!!! Him Hanifin and Markstrom gave all time worst Flames playoff performances.

Gudbradson, Mangiapane Lindholm, and Tkachuk weren't much better.
Still effing PTSD today.

It's not tennis or basketball, never gonna be one player's fault. He was out of his depth in that series.

Oh he wasn't good but honestly it's probably a lot different if he even get's .900 save percentage behind him in that series.

I remember them having a lot of zone time in that series, and then the second the puck was in their zone they were scored on.

Not all of it was Markstrom either but it's tough to play defense against Connor McDavid and Draisaitl (responsible for 9 of the goals) when they score 9 goals on 29 shots against.

Those two had 4 goals on 15 shots against when Andersson wasn't on the ice either. 13 goals on 4.3 xGA for the entire series, a .770 save percentage.
