Flames TSN: Kadri wants to win and do what is best for Flames

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/2026/01...ce-challenges/

per Dreger on TSN:

ongoing discussion between Conroy and Kadri's camp
doesn't mean anything is imminent
wants to do what is best for the Calgary Flames and wants to win a cup

developing interest in Kadri but still lots of work to be done

tire kicking from Toronto, Montreal, LA, Colorado and maybe the Dallas Stars

no rush as far as the Flames are conerned

LeBrun:
Conroy not sure how Kadri & Coleman situations will play out
Conroy won't say that those guys are definitely not moving but he is also opening to taking calls on them
Conroy trying to get younger and transition the roster
ready to keep Coleman but can't say that 100% because there is enough interest in the market that might push it over the top

Colorado just seems too perfect. They add him as their 3rd line C and they’ll be unstoppable.
Beyond that though, really encouraging that this is out there, feels very possible now.

is what I get reading that.

Remember when Tampa Bay were unstoppable all year, racked up 62 wins and 128 points? Then they got swept by Columbus in the first round. In fact, all four division winners lost in the first round that year.

You never know what will happen till it happens.

Kadri is going to be a "hockey trade" . It's gonna be dollar in dollar out. Just depends on who you trade him for I guess.

Coleman, well Coleman's got so much interest right now that he could potentially be the overpay of the year. I wager he is dealt after playing 1 more game for the Flames.

That is ideal, because it gives us lots of leverage.

Hopefully is definition of a contender is fairly open ended (teams like LAK)

Sounds about right. And from LeBrun, my takeaway WRT Coleman is that Conroy is telling other GMs to "make me an offer I can't refuse".

I like Montreal as a possible destination. He stays in Canada and joins a young up-and-coming team, and they have some interesting assets to make it happen. Could eat Josh Anderson's contract (unless we're on his 5 team no trade list) in return.

You never know what will happen till it happens.

To your point, playoffs are a totally different game and lots of regular season standouts wilt under the pressure and a more physical game.

Any playoff contender would greatly benefit from having Kadri’s combination of skill and grit.

Just so everybody understands. Kadri holds all the cards here, so it’s gotta be Conroys fault for not trading him sooner.

Yeah, given that retention is only possible for one of those guys, and it doesn't make sense to lock in a retention spot for Kadri, and considering most contenders don't have cap space, the Flames will have to take players back.

Then we on CP will have to hear the bellyaching from some about how those players are blocking our prospects.

Kadri does not hold all the cards. He has a 13 team no trade list so CC holds plenty of cards

Because of Nonis.. I think Dreger may be the best insider for the Flames.

Similar to how Lebrun was the guy during Treliving's tenure.

I won't lie...if it ends up being Colorado...and the return is less than Nelson got last year that would kind of suck since it was rumoured that was on the table for Kadri last year if him and the Flames were open to it.

Not totally different. There's a pretty strong correlation between regular-season performance and playoff performance; it's just not 100%.

It's not necessarily even a question of wilting under pressure. The Lightning lost a total of 24 games that year. They had the bad luck to have four of them in a row right at the end. The very next year, pretty much the same team won the Stanley Cup.

Sometimes screwy things happen, that's all. Tampa Bay in 2019 was the very first team ever to win the Presidents' Trophy and be swept in the first round.

It also means that a lot of what Dreger gets is what the Flames organization wants to put out there...so need to be careful with that a bit

That can't be, because we need to blame Conroy right this instant for letting Kadri hold all the cards!
