Leafs go down again.
I've lost count of how many games it's been since the Leafs have played well. Although the team wasn't expected to be in the top half of the league this season, they were at least competative earlier in the year. But lately this team has been a disgrace. Changes need to be made and the Leafs need to focus on next year.
The positives: The only positive in this game is Barrett Jackman speared somebody and got ejected. If you can't beat em, try to rip a hole in their stomach.
The negatives: The rest of the Leafs roster was overcome with jealousy as Jackman got to leave the game early while they had to stick around and take a beating.

Kings Downed Up North
Minneapolis, MN - The Los Angeles Kings were handed a 2-1 loss today in a weekend matinee at the Excel Energy Center. In what was basically an uneventful game, the Kings were outshot by a wide margin 38-24. The only Kings marker came in the first period from Marian Gaborik. Martin Prusek put in a valiant effort allowing only two goals on the barrage of rubber that was thrown his way.
Goalie Statistics Martin Prusek (KIN), 36 saves out of 38 shots, L, 14-12-2
Dominic Hasek (WIL), 23 saves out of 24 shots, W, 19-14-4
Power Play Conversions

WINGS FALL OUT OF THE PLAYOFF RACE
14...maybe 15. Not sure how many it has been since the team has won a game. Blah, what does it matter. The fans still come out to drink beer and Boo goalie Sean Burke. Next game is going to be guarantee loose night. If the Wings don't lose there next home game then the fans will be expected to buy another ticket.

Oilers Burn former GM
"Go Find some Oil you Welfare bum"
Oilers forward Shane Doan throws an insult towards former GM Sylvanfan
The Oilers certainly had this date circled on their calender. It was a day in which they had a chance to get back at the man who ruined their franchise. It was their chance to make Sylvanfan pay for his mistakes that ultimately lead to him being fired after last year. Although it was slow in developing they did eventually accomplish their ultimate goal and the players couldn't have been happier. Every player to a man had some type of comment about the man who is without a doubt the most hated GM in the CPHL.
As for the game itself, the Devils did score the games first goal as Arron Asham made it 1-0 after one period. But the Oilers rallied in the second period for goals from Nikolai Zherdev and Shane Doan. The Oilers tied the game briefly at the beginning of the third on Eric Cairns PP goal, but Shane Doan than took control. The hulking power forward who Sylvanfan ironically paid a hefty price to aquire scored his second of the game to make it 3-2. Sergei Samsonov with his 30th, and Doan completing the hat trick with powerplay goals ran the final to 5-2. Mike Dunham looked rusty in his return as he was beaten 5 times on 32 shots. Brodeur was solid for the Oilers turning aside 28 of the 30 shots sent his way.
The Oilers players ownership and management all had something to say after the game about their highly loathed former GM. "I'm so glad to beat his stupid ass, he play so many mind games with me and my ex-wife last year, he the worst person on earth" quipped Martin Brodeur. "Yeah, what a loser. He totally failed to get us the guys we needed to win last year. Now I hear he lives in a box in New Jersey and trying to survive on nothing. While we're a bunch of rich Albertans who will all be getting $400 cheques from the government. I have some advice for him. Go find some Oil you welfare bum." Laughed Shane Doan. Others were more brief. "He suck, he loser" said Vincent Lecavalier. "Hopefully his cab crashes into the river" remarked Jay Bouwmeester. "I can't believe he's still living yet alone working in this league. He's a garbage human being who shouldn't be permitted to be on this planet anymore" were the last parting shots from Peter Pocklington. Yes it appears that the City of Champions is feeling redemption today.
As for Sylvanfan himself, he simply stated that he felt his team put in a good effort and just fell short. His comments were bizarre and do indeed prove that he is certifiably nuts. "We hung in this one for a long time. We certainly want to get to where the Oilers are some day. Thats why our rebuilding process looks so extreme on the surface. I know they hate me badly around here, and that I certainly am unpopular in a of fot cities in this league. But theres 6 billion people on this planet so it won't hurt my feelings if some people dislike me. Theres still a lot of people who will be my friend."

Sharks Bite Senators (again!)
For the second time in a week the Sharks have put the bite on the Sens! 7 days after losing to the Sharks at home 1-0 the Sens came west to face some more of the same. Once again losing by a goal, this time 5-4, the frustrated Sens go away feeling like the Sharks have their number (we do! It's 1-800 U-LOSERS!).
The Sharks chased #1 keeper Turco out of the game with 5 goals in just 13 shots. Turco was last seen weeping in the Sens locker-room. "Why are these guys picking on me? Where's the love?", he said between sobs.
Newcomers Jason Wiemer (1g 1a), Robert Nilsson (2A +2), and Petr Vrana (1A +2) all played prominent roles. Rookie Jerred Smithson also played well (1g 1A) as did Milan Kraft (1G 1A +2), who is being looked at as a leader now on this very young team.
Sharks continued there habit of playing up to the level of their opponents. Sharks are 9-13-2-0-3 versus the top 16 teams and 7-16-3-0-1 against the bottom 16!

ISLANDERS FLOUNDER WITH MINISCULE 11 SHOTS ON GOAL

Tomas Vokoun reaches as Nashville forward Sean Brown maneuvers
around him to score the game's fourth goal.
NASHVILLE - The New York Islanders surrendered 36 shots on net while firing 11 of their own Sunday evening in a losing cause against the Nashville Predators.
Sunday's game between the New York Islanders and Nashville Predators had the makings of a classic duel as players from both teams had the chance to face off against their former teammates. Most of the time, these types of matches end with the traded players making valiant efforts to prove to their former clubs that it was a mistake to trade them.
Kristian Huselius made his point, scoring once and adding two assists on the night before being named the game's top star.
Former Predators however, including Tomas Vokoun, Paul Kariya, and Fedor Tyutin did not fare as well in the game leaving the hometown Predator fans happy with the outcome, and perhaps even the trade just a week ago.
Newly acquired Jason Allison opened the scoring in the first beating Vokoun with a wicked shot from the slot for his 13th of the season as Patrick Elias and Willie Mitchell added helpers.
The middle stanza would see no scoring as Tomas Vokoun stood on his head stopping 11 shots to preserve the one-goal deficit, but his efforts received no response from his teammates as they came out in the third flat-footed allowing 15 shots against, firing only 3 of their own, surrending four more goals en-route to a 5-1 walloping thanks to goals from Kristian Huselius, Sean Brown, Ed Jovanovski, and Jason Allison again with his second of the game.
Chris Drury was the lone Islander to light the lamp Sunday scoring his 25th of the season while on the ice killing a penalty.
Disgusted with their effort, the team held a "players only" meeting at the game's conclusion and closed the lockerroom for the first time this season allowing no media in for post-game questions and thoughts.
With their foes around them gaining ground in the heated playoff race in the Gretzky Conference, the Isles need to come back strong on Tuesday night when they'll do battle against the Chicago Blackhawks in Long Island.
Game Notes - The eleven shots fired in Sunday night's game was a franchise record for least number of shots for... Derek Roy, who saw little icetime on Sunday made sure the coach wouldn't play him much more after his third period head-butt on former Islander Kristian Huselius... After serving his penalty he spent the rest of the game with his behind firmly planted on the team's bench... Fedor Tyutin was a disappointing -2 on the night playing just over 22 minutes in the game.

BLUES GO HOME SINGING THE BLUES

JETS 7 BLUES 4!
Jets Record:
25-22(2)-6=58 pts—7th in the conference.
Jet Goals:
WALZ 12 (COOKE, TJARNQVIST)
BRUNETTE 14 (GRATTON, YOUNG)
RECCHI 17 (GRATTON, CARNEY) (PP)
MAYERS 11 (CAJANEK, CARNEY)
GRATTON 14 (BRUNETTE)
YOUNG 21 (BRUNETTE, GRATTON)
CARNEY 7 (BARNES, CAJANEK)
Positives:
Just a great night offensively for the Jets. The Jets scored 7 goals tonight while out of town the Isles only managed 11 shots on goal . The win helps as it puts a little room between the Jets and the 10th place team the Vancouver Canucks. The 9th place Hawks remain just 2 points behind.
Negatives:
Giving up 4 goals doesn’t feel great but the win is the most important outcome. We also gave up 2 power play goals and a short handed goal. However the win puts us 1 point up on the Blues.
Player of the Game:
Veteran Center man Chris Gratton is POW tonight. Chris had a goal and 3 assists to lead the Jets attack.
Turning Point:
The turning point wasn’t one particular play but the entire first period. The Jets scored 3 times and out shot the Blues 16-5 in the period.
Up Next:
Tomorrow vs. the Wild!

Yep, some people scoffed at my end of the trade but I think, in the long run, I will be quite happy with the trade. As an aside, is there any other team with as many rookies in there starting line-up?

The Stars management team returns from vacation and watches a close 3-2 game with the Stars on the losing end once again. Alex Perezhogin was able to net goal number 20 on the season, and somehow the Stars were able to unleash 32 shots on goal. Iowa was also able to shutout Rochester 2-0.

NEW LOOK SABRES FAIL TO IMPRESS GM DESPITE WIN
SABRES 3 STARS 2
Buffalo Sabres GM was looking forward to seeing newcomers Brian Smolinski and Bryan Rolston in the lineup for the Sabres in a game they should win against Dallas. The Sabres won, but it took backup goalie Martin Gerber standing on his head to salvage the 2 points.
The new look 'first line' for Buffalo with Smolinski, Prospal and Palffy did play well, in on all three team goals. Sabres look to try and get three lines going though for future games, expect to seem some juggling, likely Morrow-Gomez-Miller and Rolston-Pahlsson-Fedotenko will get tried next time out. Sabres continue to look towards ways of improving their club. right now 4 points separate 6th through 10th place

EDDIE NIPS THE COUGH SYRUP AGAIN
For crying out loud, Eddie is nipping at the cough syrup. Khabibulin can't get back too soon!
This is a game the Hawks should have easily won. The rest of the team did the job they should do, putting 36 on the Flyers goalie. But the Flyers goaltending was better.
Eddie is getting a much needed rest. He may be collecting slivers in his butt for a long long time.

Flyers Beat The Hawks… Again
The Philadelphia Flyers seem to have the Hawks number this year, winning their last two meetings. The Flyers were able to pull one out in overtime, on R.J. Umberger’s 3rd goal of the game, after the team gave up the lead late in the third period.
“It feels great to be able to help the team, after we gave up a weak one at the end of the third.” Said Umberger. Umberger has been on a roll since being recalled from the Phantoms. Umberger, with the three goals tonight, now has six goals and four assists in ten games for the big club. Umberger seems to be making quite the case for becoming a top six winger for the club.

Nice job by the Blues...head to head against the team they are fighting for the final playoff spot in the Howe conference, and they find a way to let in 7 goals, 3 of which came on 8 shots in the second period.
Selanne, Staal, Timander and Salo all end up -3 on the evening...a very poor showing for a team coming into the game 7-2 in their last 10.

RUDE WELCOMING BACK FOR VOKOUN
In their first meeting after the trade between the Isles and the Preds, Vokoun was all smiles until the game started. The new Preds completely dominated the Isles. Vokoun got yanked in the third and the Isles could only get eleven shots on net. Legace let one slip by him, playing in front of string defence in Jovonovski, Mclaren, Mitchell, Warrener.
The second line was HOT for the Preds, the combination of Elias, Allison, Husulius put up 9 points, 3 for each. The Powerplay was hot, striking three times on five attempts.
The goals came from Jovonovski, Huselius, Brown and two for Allison.
The defence played strong in front of Legace, allowing only 11 shots and getting 4 points as well.
Next up: Home and Home vs the Maple Laughs
