This still confuses me when everything I've learned and heard about Kerins leads me to believe he's an incredibly poor fit to be deployed as a 4th liner.
If you want Kerins here to get a run at settling in and producing, fair enough just put him up the lineup then. But if the intent is to plug him into Kirklands role, why? You have Morton who is tailor made for the 4C role and not exactly a youngster at 26 and is off to a great start in the AHL this year.

Had a good camp, leading scorer on the Wranglers, did decent in his cup of coffee last year, older prospect. Makes sense to me for now
The tension will be where to insert him. I assume he will sit tonight to get a practice in first.
They will have to restyle the bottom line to make it suit his abilities and shortcomings if he's to play centre. If he's a wing, Backlund is good with newbies but he also is going to be playing top lines. Maybe put him with Frost and Huberdeau and feed them offesnive zone starts?
EDIT: looks like he's playing tonight, on Kadri's line.

As long as he's figured out how to play his position in the NHL. That's where he got lost.
Did he? Or did he have natural growing pains most young players have.
Sutter is on the radio talking about how much Kerins has grown, how he trusts him to play against other teams top lines now, and how much he's improved defensively over the last two seasons but people seem to want to cling to an idea that Kerins can't be trusted.
I don't get why it seems to be the end of the world to try a different 4th line and take Lomberg out of the lineup.
We are already in last place, the team can't score goals, how much could it hurt to try something like Sharangovich - Kerins - Klapka or Sharangovich - Kerins - Zary as a 4th line for a couple games.

I just hope that they give him - and any other young prospect that is getting recalled between now and the end of the season - a chance to succeed. This means not 4th line minutes with irregular shifts that makes it difficult to get into the game. Give him a top 9 position, and enough rope. The season is lost.
Yes, I think the Flames need to maximize asset value where they can by playing certain vets and seeing if they can get picks for them, but if they are going to recall a promising prospect, they should give that prospect a proper position in the top 9.
