Mike "Bubbles" Smith charged with sexual assault

Actor Mike Smith, best known as the character Bubbles on the television show Trailer Park Boys, has been charged with sexual assault.

Mr. Smith, 53, was charged by Halifax Regional Police on Oct. 2, according to court documents filed in Nova Scotia’s provincial court. The assault is alleged to have occurred in December, 2017, but the charging documents do not include additional details of the allegations.

They were about to launch a new season of episodes after a 7 year hiatus...

I do remember reading an article about it at the time, and he was also arrested the year before in LA but those charges were dropped

I came across it on Reddit and just from the dozens of comments people who claimed to be from the east coast weren’t surprised and said they seen some stuff with him over the years.

There's been smoke around Mike Smith for years. He has a reputation that transcends and pre-dates social media, especially in that area of the country.

And people highlighting this aren't "stringing him up". Ignoring the pattern is just exercising ignorance at this point.

I'll be very honest, the issue with Reddit is they're ready to dogpile anyone and everyone.


I saw someone mention reading something about Fred Rogers and there was a line of posts saying "Yeah, I've heard he was actually really awful" and things to that effect.


Fred Rogers is known as one of the nicest and sweetest human beings to ever live on this planet and while not everyone was agreeing with this string of posts that it existed gives you an idea of how toxic and self-feeding the Reddit hive mind is.

Goes well beyond reddit.

People lose their ability to evaluate independently when they congregate, but are especially prone to it online under the guise of anonymity.

We're in the age of cognitive offloading, where it's easier to let chatgpt to do the research and pull answers out of the ether or join the latest dogpile trusting in a couple of unconfirmed testimonials than go through the data ourselves and weigh the evidence.

I have a friend who is heavily involved in the East Coast music scene, and he wasn't surprised by the report. He said there have been rumblings of this stuff for a while.

That said, I know **nothing** of this case or allogations. He does have a damn good lawyer (which doesn't mean anything with regard to guilt, hire the best lawyer you can even if you're innocent).
