Practice Notes Oct 17. Gridin assigned to AHL. Huberdeau activated off IR.
Flames need to make a roster move to activate Huberdeau.
Either they waive someone, send one of Gridin/Honzek/Parekh down, or put someone else on IR

I love Gridin, I have no problem with him going down even just for a bit. Go light it up on the top line in the A, he is only 19, bring him up again later in the year.
Would also be happy if he stayed up but no harm and if anything probably good for his development if he goes down even though he has definitely shown he can play at this level

Lomberg needs to come out of the lineup. That 4th line could have a completely different and more offensive look with a different winger there.
We have Gridin, Stromgren, Kerins, etc as players that could benefit from NHL time that could benefit from that spot in the lineup.

True. It's basically his personality that is keeping him in the lineup.

I'm so glad we are keeping useless plugs like Kirkland and Lomberg around while a good young talent who needs playing time is out. Oh and we get Jake Bean back in too, good times! Onward tank commander Huska!

I'm fine with sending Gridin down. But Miromanov cost the team big time in his one game, I'm not sure what the end game is to keeping him on the roster.

No doubt, he will help but expectations-- with him playing all season, we were still bottom 6 in scoring.

I'd really like to see Gridin and Huby on the same line. Matvie is smart enough to anticipate what Huby is doing. I think they would gel.

CC got him expecting a horrible season, needed someone the fans could love, instead they almost made the playoffs. Now they have an abundance of mid tier NHLer percolating up, and need room.
Not sure if Lombo fetches you anything, but yeah it might be time to move on.
Unlikely though with all the marketing the team has done around him.

My feeling is it's fine to send Gridin down, he got a taste, he looks good but some AHL time is not going to hurt him.
My opinion is there are guys who have more than enough AHL time that need some NHL games for us to see if they can sink or swim.
Kerins: 129 AHL GP
Stromgren: 142 AHL GP
Both those guys are over 120 AHL GP now, and my opinion is once you're over that 2 season in the AHL / 120 GP threshold you need at least a little bit of NHL time to get a taste, learn the game at the next level, and understand what you need to do to evolve your game to get there. You don't get that and continue your development by just playing more AHL games.
Kuznetsov is in the same boat a bit with his 218 AHL GPs, he has nothing left to learn at that level without some NHL time to continue his development.
Kerins or Stromgren, and Kuznetsov should be up.
Kirkland, Miromanov, and Gridin (just because he still can learn in the AHL) can go down.
Huberdeau-Kadri-Farabee
Sharangovich-Frost-Coronato
Honzek-Backlund-Coleman
Zary- Kerins - Klapka or Stromgren-Zary-Klapka
Lomberg
Hanley - Weegar
Bahl - Andersson
Kuznetsov - Parekh
Bean - Pachal

I know it sucks to see players like Honzek and Gridin losing out on roster spots due to a logjam of bottom 6 forwards & bottom pair d-men, but it's not the end of the world IMO. Some time on the Wranglers will ultimately be beneficial for both of them and I'm optimistic Conroy will move out a few contracts throughout the season to alleviate this bottleneck we currently have.
I think they definitely could have been more proactive in moving out someone like Bean and/or Miro in the offseason but it's harder to predict someone like Gridin for example coming out of the gate so hot.
As far as Huska goes, yeah he's made some questionable lineup choices and I'm not sure what he sees in some players, so I can't & won't defend that. But I know I'm not as critical on him as yourself, so I'll leave it at that lol.

And this is the season to find out.
Next there will be more guys knocking on the door.
Even if Kerins, Kuz, and Strom don't fit the long term picture you might increase their value showcasing them.
Every GM knows what Miro, Bean, Kirkland are.
