The Flames are off to an all-time bad start

Things are not going according to plan for the Calgary Flames.
A year ago, the Flames entered the 2024-25 season after a chaotic 2023-24 curious about their team and willing to do nothing and see what the team was capable of. The answer? Turns out they were capable of quite a lot, and rode hot goaltending and a really tenacious checking style to within the regulation wins tiebreaker of a playoff spot.
But a virtually identical Flames team is off to a horrid start to the 2025-26 season

Dustin Wolf’s first full season with the Calgary Flames was one to remember, posting a 29-16-8 record with a .910 save percentage (SV%) and 2.64 goals against average (GAA) in 53 games. He finished as a runner-up for the Calder Trophy and earning a seven-year contract extension that will pay him $7.5 million a year.

But through four games in 2025-26, Wolf has struggled, going 1-3-0 with an .873 SV% and 3.77 GAA

Normally I would say baseball sucks and it's not a real sport.... but after watching Ohtani.. holy crap. It was the 1st baseball game I have watched in full in the past 10 years.

Well, if there is a night to lose, it is this one since most eyes will be glued to the Jays. At any rate, I don't expect the Flames to put up much of a fight, but it will be interesting to see what their response will be tonight.

The Flames will find their defensive mojo ... the won't be this bad all that long.

But the points are already gone, and finding their system won't help their goal scoring ... so the struggle will always be there anyway.

Guessing they win a few to correct the early "everything going wrong" trend, and then settle into a pace that gets them pick #7 for lottery odds.

If the Flames lose tonight? Step back, this is getting really exciting. I'll be overjoyed x2, nearing maximum McKenna point momentum!

If the Flames win? I'll be mildly happy for the Kadri and the krew...but less so, because the young footprint on the roster is less than what I'd like to see it be at this stage of the team's development. I just don't see a lot on the roster that is part of the next, actually meaningful core.

Either way, it's a great day for Flames hockey!

Friedman cautions "the Flames do not like to throw in the towel"...yikes. This team needs to emphatically state where they are. The bottom. Friedman continues that the best thing they can do? Friedman says it will take someone in the organization to step up and say "people aren't going to like this, but this is what we need to do" and that if this current group can't dig themselves out them, they have to tackle each other to prevent from them calling central registry.

"If I look at the Flames, you know what they need? If they can get McKenna, or a high skilled player at the top of the draft...that's what they need" and continues to say that's who sells tickets in new arenas.

Friedman seems to really hammer that the Flames do not want to be that bad...They talk about DuPont, and Friedman says there's too much scar tissue that they won't want to be uncompetitive.

My goodness, if that's what Friedman has heard...that's damning.
