Default New world record for solving Rubiks cube

11.13 seconds.

Mind boggling to me.

The two people mentioned were 20 and 15 years old; not even born when the Cube first came out.

Here's my record - longest time for not being able to solve the thing: almost 24 years. Beat that!

(I bet someone can!)

A couple of friends of mine can solve them, but I just screw them up more when I try.

There's a guy who hangs out at Market Mall in the food court who is amazingly fast too. He a tall lanky guy that looks like a bit of a loner, though he does have a small circle of friends who are often around too....

Point Being: He is amazing with his Rubiks Cube. His hands fly so fast I don't know how he sees them. If you ever see the guy you won't miss him the next time you come across him.

I think 3 minutes was my best (25 years ago...or so). Seconds? Unreal. But they still aren't getting close to my record with a girl....

Does anyone remember Square One? I am pretty sure thats what it was called, it was basically like the cube, except that it wouldn't start out as a cube, you had to first get it into a cube then match all the colours... my parents bought me that and I never solved it... It mocks me to this day.

People "circle up" when he solves it? Hilarious. Do they chant and pump their fists?

For some reason your comment has me conjuring thoughts of a bunch of geeks with utility belts and pocket protectors, circling around the uber-dork solving a Rubiks cube while chanting in Klingon.

Wait, is this one side in 12 seconds, or all six sides?

it'd be all 6 sides... I cant imagine seconds, I could do it in a few minutes when i was younger. It's all about memorizing combonations or thats how i learned

Once I figured out how to take one apart I could "solve" it in about a minute.

I believe I saw something on Discovery or similar.

There is a series of patterns you can learn to complete the cube quickly. You have to freaking study the thing and I believe these people can look at it and know what moves to make to solve it without actually paying attention to what they're doing. Like this crazy guy:

Stupid Square One is crazy. Once I get it out of cube shape, it'll never go back together again.

On that new show on the WB, that second season of the geeks and babes show or goddesses or something, I can't remember...One of the geek's skills is that he holds the world record in solving the Rubik's cube blindfolded or behind his back. He memorizes every side and just does it.

I was addicted to the cube when it first came out. I could amaze people by solving it............but it still took me between 3 to 5 minutes! Seconds is crazy. Now, due to age, I doubt I could solve the thing.

While stretching the point a little bit (and only a little bit), you've pretty much described exactly what happens. He tends to get a fair bit of attention from 'regular shoppers' as well. Lots of quiet clapping and 'wow!'s from people close by.

He's a strange duck, but talented with the Cube for sure.

When I was a little kid, probably 5 or 6 my parents had one and I took all the coloured stickys off and put them back on so it looked like I solved the thing. My parents thought I was a genius!

I actually did solve it once or twice later in life for real. But it took hours not seconds.

Cha Ching, you found my method (or course I still could not remove all the stickers and put them back in the right color in 15 Secs)

I saw that guy from Market Mall. It just boggled my mind to see him solve it that fast.

Anybody remember the Rubix Link or something like that?

If a 1000 monkeys at a 1000 typewriters could bang out Shakespeare, then the same logic could be applied to the rubiks cube.

Randomly and rapidly twist it around and sooner or later you are going to get all six sides matching up. That was always my logic when trying to solve those things... and it hasn't worked yet. Let me know when those monkeys finish Hamlet.
