Flames first-round picks set for college showdown
“I’m guessing that Cole will be out there a bunch against Cullen,” said Flames director of player development Ray Edwards. “It’ll be fun if that happens. I would love to see that.”

Someday, you’ll likely see them together on a power-play unit.

The 18-year-old from Macklin, Sask., just popped for five points — a goal and four assists — to lead the Fighting Hawks to a pair of victories over the Omaha Mavericks. He was saluted as the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s forward of the week.

“I think that was kind of a ticking time bomb for me,” Reschny told Postmedia. “I was kind of waiting for that weekend, and it did feel nice.

“I’d been getting a few unlucky bounces, and it was frustrating at times. But I was just trying to stick to my game and play the right way and trust that I’m going to earn those bounces and that it’s going to go my way eventually.”

Anyone have any insights as to how Potter has looked so far this year? I watched some of the game against McKenna earlier this season and he really stood out as a play driver for Arizona.

From what I've seen he's looked pretty good, definitely needs to bulk up a bit just to win more puck battles. But he really doesn't have much to work with on that team.

Arizona is a developing program, and not very deep compared to the NCHC which has to one of the toughest, if not the toughest conference in NCAA. Five of the nine teams in NCHC are top 20 ranked including #3, #4, #6, #9, and #17; the remaining 4 teams all got votes. Loads of top end college players across the NCHC.

ASU doesn't play with much structure compared to the top teams in college. Potter has shown flashes at times, but doesn't have much to work with. Former Flames pick, Jack Beck has looked good on Potter's wing in his first two weeks. Hope they continue to build chemistry.

Cam Robinson said he was surprised Potter didn't enter the portal after his freshman season. If Potter plays a 3rd year of college, I could see the Flames advising transferring to a better program. They've done it before with Sergeev

Ray Edwards on Potter
Quote:
“I watched Cullen the other day, when they came back in that game. He didn’t get a point on any of those three goals, but he was a big part of all three. If you go back and watch the film, he was the one that entered the puck on the one power-play goal. On the second one, he was the one that kept the puck in off of a lost faceoff. And on the six-on-five, he won the battle on the faceoff. The puck comes over to the wall and if he doesn’t win that battle and box out the D and get the puck to the point, they don’t possess the puck. So he doesn’t get a point for any of the three of those, but those are all really important plays.

NoDak controlling ASU early, 10 shots to 1

Potters not as small as you'd think he was given the scouting write ups. And he's been the play driver every time he's been on the ice. Reads plays extremely well.

Haven't noticed Reschny much but it's early.

North Dakota are streets ahead of Arizona in that period. Definitely feels like a David vs Goliath match up.

Potter was 1 for 6 in the faceoff circle, including 0 for 2 against Reschny
Reschny was 2 for 3 in the dot

If the 1st was an indication, I wouldnt expect a lot out of Potter tonight. ND are strong. But this is definitely nice to get a real time look at the Flames two best prospects not named Parekh.

Stop trying to coin the phrase "streets ahead"

Potter may not be piling up the points, but he’s still a transition wizard, a play-driver, and an entry machine. He’s faster and more agile than anyone on the ice. He’s several streets ahead.

I don’t have any illusions that Littler is a shoe-in to play NHL hockey by any means, but he’s actually quite mobile, tenacious, and strong in the defensive zone and on the forecheck. He’s been very physical.

Reschny causes the turnover on the forecheck and ND makes it 2-0. Not sure if he’ll get an assist

Little is definitely a big body that can get onto the forecgeck pretty quickly.
