Default Final Lineup Predictions Coming Out Of Preseason

The Flames roster is hard to predict. There are so many similar players. What does everyone think the lineup will look like. Here’s my attempt based on what I saw in preseason.

Farabee Kadri Klapka
Huberdeau Frost Coronato
Gridin Backlund Coleman
Zary Pospisil Sharangovich

Lomberg
Kirkland

Weegar Hanley
Bahl Andersson
Pachal Parekh

Bean

Wolf
Cooley

I would think Miromanov gets put on waivers. When Andersson gets traded if they don’t get a Dman coming back that Kuznetsov comes up. I think they will be looking for a replacement for Cooley and Provetsov. Hoping they can shelter Parekh 5 on 5 enough until he gets his legs under him. He’ll be a massive asset on the PP and just generating offense in general. Really hope Gridin sticks. He has looked great.

With the season starting Oct 7, when are the final cap compliant rosters due by?

If I was picking the lineup I'd have the same players but my forward starting lines would be:

Huberdeau-Kadri-Coronato
Zary-Frost-Sharangovich
Gridin-Backlund-Coleman
Farabee-Pospisil-Klapka

I'd honestly swap Gridin and Sharkbait. Gridin Frost should be the primary pairing. They work well off eachother.

If Huberdeau healthy, I think Gridin gets sent down and they roll with 8 defensemen again for a little while.

This isn't a prediction because NHL coaches love energy lines for whatever reason but I'd start with this:

Huberdeau Frost Coronato
Farabee Kadri Klapka
Gridin Backlund Coleman
Pospisil Zary Sharangovich
Lomberg
Kirkland

Weegar Andersson
Bahl Parekh
Hanley Pachal
Bean

Wolf
Cooley

I like Bahl and Parekh together. Weegar is better at switching sides and him and Andersson should be amply motivated to figure things out as a pair.

I expect this though:

Huberdeau Kadri Coronato
Farabee Frost Sharangovich
Zary Backlund Coleman
Lomberg Pospisil Klapka
Kirkland

Hanley Weegar
Bahl Andersson
Parekh Pachal
Bean Miromanov

If it were up to me:
Huberdeau - Kadri - Klapka
Coleman - Backlund - Coronato
Gridin - Frost - Sharangovich
Pospisil - Zary - Farabee
Kirkland

Bahl - Andersson
Weegar - Pachal
Hanley - Parekh
Bean

* With Parekh and Pachal getting reps with Weegar depending on the time of the game. I think Hanley would be better than Pachal at playing with Parekh to start, but that leaves a hole in a top 4 role.

If I base it purely on the pre-season action I saw.

Farabee-Kadri-Coronato

Huberdeau-Frost-Gridin

Zary-Backlund-Coleman

Sharangovich-Kirkland-Klapka

Pospisil/Lomberg

Hanley-Weegar

Bahl-Andersson

Pachal-Parekh

Bean

Miromanov

Wolf

Cooley

I thought 8D made sense if we were running 2 or more rookies (Parekh, Kuznetsov). With only 1 rookie in the lineup right now, I would go with 7 D and use the extra spot to add Gridin to the forwards.

Huberdeau-Kadri-Coronato
Zary-Frost-Gridin
Farabee-Backlund-Coleman
Sharangovich-Pospisil-Klapka
X:Lomberg, Kirkland

You would want to rotate Sharangovich, Gridin, Zary around in the second line and Gridin should likely sit once in a while to watch and learn the game and rest within the tougher NHL schedule.

Bahl-Weegar
Hanley-Andersson
Bean-Pachal/Parekh

Bahl-Weegar need to take on the shutdown assignments that Bahl-Andersson had last season (playing with Backlund's line). Then Hanley-Andersson can take on the more offensive assignments with Kadri and Frost's lines. That should help boost Andersson's stats and silence the +/- focused analyzers.

Parekh should only be expected to be playing 50% of the games to start the season, so he can split duty with Pachal and Bean will get a pretty consistent position on the third line.

PP1: Kadri-Huberdeau-Coronato-Zary-Andersson
PP2: Frost-Gridin-Klapka-Farabee-Parekh

I am not sure if PP2 is a good idea or a terrifying one.... Frost and Farabee would need to anchor the group while Klapka creates chaos in front of the net, Parekh QBs from the point and Gridin snipes.

My crazy dream scenario would be:

Huberdeau Kadri Klapka
Gridin Frost Coronato
Zary Backlund Farabee
Pospisil Kirkland Coleman/Honzek

Lomberg
Sharangovich

Weegar Andersson
Bahl Parekh
Pachal Hanley/Kuz/Bru

Wolf
Shooter Tutor

Almost no chance that happens, but I think they would be fun to watch.

The coach has been pretty consistent with the lines. Huberdeau /Farabee, Coronato/Sharangovich, and Bean/Pachal may swap. Otherwise, a healthy lineup will start like

Huberdeau-Kadri-Coronato
Farabee-Frost-Sharangovich
Zary-Backlund-Coleman
Lomberg-Pospisil-Klapka
Kirkland

Hanley-Weegar
Bahl-Andersson
Bean-Parekh
Pachal-Miromanov

Wolf

Two things I am waiting to see is how they deploy Parekh so he doesn’t get torched every night and whether they keep Gridin up. IMO he has earned a spot over some of our plugs.

Note: This is assuming Huberdeau is good to go. I think Gridin has earned a spot at this point but will be sent down as a numbers game - he’ll probably be told he played well enough to make the team and he needs to keep it up in the American League and he’ll be the first call up. Similar to Coronato and Zary’s breakout years.

I feel like Klapka is a better player with Kadri on the ice

If Huska starts Jake Bean over Pachal he is an idiot.
