I doubt he finishes this contract but Oilers are probably paying for it with 50/50 money.

Hate the Oilers, but I actually think he's a pretty good coach. Good move by the Greasers.

"Get the puck behind the net and wait for McDavid to come and carry it all the way up the ice"
"What if McDavid isn't on the ice?"
"Then you need to go for a change."
Amazing coach.

Didn't McDavid throw the coach under the bus after this year's Finals? Something along the lines of "We kept doing the same thing over and over again against the Panthers and it didn't work."
Who's responsible for that (team offensive strategy)? Methinks it's the coach.
And it's normal criticism for a fired coach (including in Calgary) is that they failed to adapt to their opponent in playoff series.''
So no. I don't think Knoblauch is a good coach. He's a coach of a team with the 2 highest scoring players in the league and a system built around them.

Or McDavid tells Knob to take the money while he can, because he's leaving

The only possible strategy for the Oilers, when they fall behind, is to play McDavid and Draisaitl together and double-shift them. Every coach for the last decade has done that, including smarter coaches than Knoblauch.
It's tough to have a ‘team offensive strategy’ when your whole offence is based on two players, and those two never listen to the coach anyway.
