Are Vespas cool or lame
Last year I started thinking of getting a Vespa to rip around the neighborhood, go to the pub, and some light grocery shopping. Maybe even the office from time to time.
I was thinking it would be so damn cool and I'd look like some super stylish Euro guy you see in magazines. Side satchel, linen shirt, boat shoes, the works. Might even catch the odd raised eyebrow from a neighborhood mom.
Then my one buddy was like dude, that is the lamest #### of all time and now I'm having a dilemma. He's like get a motorcycle - it's way cooler. I concede motorcycles are cool, but I'm not looking to pick up chicks by any stretch, but I wouldn't mind the odd chick showing a hint of attention. Plus, I'm not interested in killing myself on a motorcycle when I invariably want to see how fast it can go.
So, question. Are Vespas cool or lame?

Presumably you're a grown ass adult, not a high school student. Who cares what other people think is cool or not? If you think a Vespa is a practical vehicle for getting around and running errands, then go for it.

I'd like a general idea of what people think. I've trusted the CP hivemind on much more important matters in the past.

I think Vespas are awesome, would be a fun way to get around. Like MarchHare said, who cares what other people think about them too, as long as you like it that's all that matters.

Are motorcycles cooler than vespas? Probably.
But...
A cool guy will still be cool on a vespa, and a ######bag will still be a ######bag on a motorcycle.

You're asking the wrong question.
The right question is: will a Vespa be fun for me and put a smile on my face?
If the answer is yes, then hit it, dude.
I will say ebikes are more fun because they can do everything a vespa can do, plus hit warp zones (aka bike paths). For that reason alone I'd do an ebike, but that has nothing to do with cool or not.

IMO Vespas would be something neat and fun to zip around in and who cares what others think about it... but if your question is to help decide whether zipping around in a Vespa will be cool in terms of stylish...
It's kinda cool if someone is zipping around with a IDGAF type of attitude and I've seen people like this with Vespas on the roads (even saw a couple with one each). IMO, it might seem kinda lame if you're zipping around trying to garner attention being all like, "I'm on a Vespa!".

I dont know. I think for the purposes that you mentioned of light shopping and tooling around the neighbourhood a scooter seems perfect and a motorbike seems like way over-kill.
If you want to be one of those guys that goes on long rides on the highway or whatever then yeah, you're looking at motorbike territory, but for what you described? Thats pretty well the definition of the function of Vespas/Scooters.
They're not obnoxious, unassuming, easy to ride, relatively inexpensive and seemingly quite practical.

Only if it is over 50cc. A moped with a 50cc engine (or electric motor) can be ridden with just a learners permit.

We had a couple of those on an acreage, very fun little beasts. We also used them for jousting...also fun but probably not the best idea we ever had, there was some carnage.

I think they're cool, too bad they're useless for so much of the year here.
