https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/projected-202...ight-1.2332940

So does this mean he won't be in the 26 draft? Or is the expectation that he's going to be one and done?

The draft is age based, not where one plays.

Lifetime In Suspension

I think all it means is he's gonna get a year's worth of NIL cash before getting drafted first overall and going pro.

Penn State is getting more aggressive in their recruiting program.

Penn State should be very good with Mckenna, L. Misa, Jackson Smith, and Mac Godowsky joining Fink, Cerrato, Laubach and Wiebusch although they will be a very young team.

We will for sure be seeing top CHL talent go to the NCAA on a regular basis.
Less games, more time in the gym, an "education" for some, better travel, top facilities on top of getting paid 6 figures.
The CHL is going to have a major problem. They had made significant cuts to their education incentives, their travel sucks, they play a ton of games.

I think the university route produces a more mature player.

If you are a top prospect (lets say projected to be taken in the top 2 rounds). Why would you choose CHL over NCAA? The only thing I can think of is you want to be close to family but most of these kids never get taken by their hometown team in their respective drafts.
Perhaps that is one way to create an incentive for CHL - you get first dibs on a local kid.

And generally more attractive locations.
Do you want to live on a sweet campus at Penn State, Boston College, Denver, Arizona State, UConn etc
Or do you want to live in a billet home in Medicine Hat, Prince George or Prince Albert?

Well, it behooves the NHL and Hockey Canada for the CHL to be strong. It benefits the kids to have competition because they will get better deals

I agree, the CHL is in trouble.
-less desirable locales
-no financial or educational benefits
-intense schedule
I think we will see all CHL stars moving to the NCAA in their D+1 year.
Negatives for the Flames:
-This will likely impact the number of players willing to sign an ELC immediately after the Draft, and ultimately increase the risk of players choosing to go the UFA route (especially the late bloomers).
-The training camps and prospect tournaments are going to get really boring without many of the top prospects attending.
If I was in the CHL's shoes:
-make an effort to merge with the USHL and select locations of the BCHL.
-Drop your limits on drafted players being eligible for the AHL. You will be losing your D+1 players to the NCAA anyways. This rule just encourages NHL clubs to push their players the NCAA route.
-Reduce the number of games, allowing players to train properly.
-Reduce the number of teams, ensuring a higher quality product.
-Focus on being the best home to U18 players. Limit the age of players in the league to 19 (or D+1)

Seems like an easy choice. Leaving a a place like Medicine Hat to go live the campus life in the US.
