It was his birthday yesterday. They probably tried to get it finalized yesterday but ran out of time with the draft.

Happy birthday, Bahl!

Agreed, I definitely thought that going higher than $5M would get us into the 7-8 year range.

Still, this is great to have him locked up until he turns 31. At that point we either have his replacement in place or we can give him another short contract.

And from his perspective it gives him a shot at one more bigger contract if he solidifies himself into a top 4 shutdown guy. He could land $8Mx5 or something with the cap going up.

Decent number, that's basically 2nd/3rd pair money going forward. Guy has good at times, brutal at others. Turned 25 yesterday so obviously you're hoping he solidifies his game more.

A tidy piece of work by Conroy.

Bahl is going to be a big important part of this team for years to come. Exciting news!

Nice work, with the cap going up that is even a respectable amount to pay a #5 d-man, hopefully our d prospect pipeline can push him down there or he becomes a steal and cements himself as a 3/4 dman!

That's a good term for Bahl. It's a bit higher than I expected, but with the rising cap I guess that's a fair value. I think it's better than the contract Z got from BOS, but the two are pretty similar. Hopefully Bahl's game takes another couple of steps, and becomes a #3 shut down D in a year or two.

Hey @Scorp what are your thoughts on Bahl in general?

In my eyes so far, the best part of this contract is that it eats what will be Bahl's best years. He's not a great player, and I'm not certain he's a 3-4 as much as he's a 5-6. I don't love the player, I don't love the contract, but he's fine and it's fine, and this seems fair - and that doesn't remove the upside that he could improve during this contract and that it's entirely possible we haven't seen his best. I'm hoping we see a meaner Bahl this year.

Seeing him away from Andersson will be interesting, because that pairing was not great last year. In limited play, Bahl and Weegar (unshockingly) were much better together.

Numbers aren't bad for Bahl.
