Treliving was always a fan of that term. Johnny, Gio, Backlund, Hamilton, Lindholm, Hanifin, Andersson, Markstrom, Coleman all got 6 year deals when Tre was here

Under 8m is a win for T.O, 6 years is a win for Knies.

That's a great number to get Knies at. Nice work by Tre. Big guys who play big and have hands are rare.

Trelivings has always been good at RFA contracts. Was one of his strengths

Knies could be the next big power forward, but will be interesting to see the Leafs offensive numbers without Marner.

Guy got almost all his even strength points playing with Marner. The interesting thing about Marner is that his point percentage does not really change whoever he plays with. If he plays 5% of the time with someone he gets 5% of his points with that player. It ain’t the same for most other players on the Leafs but Knies in particular. If he plays with the big boys like Marner he is a 60+ point winger, if he plays with anyone else he is like a 40 point winger.

Pretty decent AAV, but that takes him to UFA?

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I don't think it does, really. Knies plays bring more to the table than the 10 more points he scores, in physicality and a heavy game.
Not a fan of Treliving, but proportionate to each players production and intangibles, their contracts are similarly compensated. Certainly not, where one is glaringly better than the other.

Knies arguably played with much better talent, it's quite difficult to compare the two players. I like Coronato better though.

Ya at this point the contracts look near identical for what they did last year. Who knows how the contracts end up aging.

I wonder how much more it would have cost to sign him for the 2 UFA years? I know I probably would have preferred signing him to 5 years instead, but otherwise a pretty good contract that should age well.
Treliving's weaknesses (aside form the Tkachuk bridge) are usually around UFA signings and trading draft capital for players that don't really do anything long-term. This re-signing is pretty good value IMO.

Great contract. You gotta love this player who is one of the few Leafs who brings in in the regular season and playoffs.
