From the voice of the enemy: the truth? (Stauffer on Flames' situation)
I know, I know. I don't like the guy either, but he's now saying exactly what I've been saying for the last few years. We will never see a rebuild until the owners green light it.

I don't have a problem with him. In my experience it's been mainly Oiler fans who have an issue with his commentary on their team, because he's a homer or a paid shill or whatever. But when he makes an appearance on Flames media he has a pretty objective and informed view of our team.

Why is this a thread? Stauffer never tried to imply that the owners won't agree to it, he simply said that a rebuild doesn't happen until the owners do agree to it. And as Royle has hinted at, it sounds like they have.
But of course, people see what they want to see, and some people want to see nothing but negativity.

He also implied that the owners haven't agreed to it yet. His news is about two years behind the times.

and win multiple playoff rounds which is better than one 3rd round playoff appearance in 35 years. Like or not, bob is correct.
Yeah just win 4 lotteries, again great advice. Under the current rules the Oilers dont even get McDavid...how many playoff wins without him? Not to mention they were trying to compete that season anyway.
That's where this is all messed up. Can anyone show me the point in time when the Oilers actually tanked? They didn't plan on doing this in any year. They may have leaned into a year in which they sucked, but they never started a year trying for a high draft pick.
Oilers are a cap team and finish last.
Flames had the highest amount of cap room last year @18 million - took a massive win streak and a tied historical record at 96 points, losing on a tiebreaker, to not make the playoffs.
Any comparisons that Stauffer is making is just not correct.
