Default 2025 Draft: Who SHOULD the Flames pick at 32

Same thing here, not who you think they WILL pick, who do you think they SHOULD pick.

Bill Zonnon all day for me. A center who can play the game anyway you want it. Has skill, size, is physical. He has a clunky stride but he has no problem getting to where he needs to be. I think he could end up being the steal of the first round.

William Horcoff and Alex Zharovsky are next after Zonnon. Zharovsky has lots of skill, but is he too much of perimeter player to produce at the NHL?

If we're gonna have the Wolf and the Bear we might as well add the Raven.

There has also been some speculation that the KHL could work very hard to keep him over there. So there's a risk there.
With that said, I picked him, because at this stage of the draft I think he's got the highest ceiling.

Ivan Ryabkin.

He's a pest, he has high end skill. I believe Conroy's Culture can develop this kid to reach his ceiling. I think this is where the Flames will begin to differentiate themselves - they won't shy away from taking risks, and they'll develop the kids correctly.

Jack Murtagh would be where I'd look if somone else grabs Ryabkin.

I think you get similar upside with Zharovsky without nearly the risk.

*goes to look into Zharovsky*

I haven't looked at him yet, but I will now. When looking into Ryabkin, I didn't actually know he was such an a-hole on the ice. I think Ryabkin is worth the risk.

Zharovsky, Gastrin, Moore, Ryabkin are my picks. Pretty happy with any of them.

I don't hate taking a swing at Ryabkin. The Flames should be all in trying to add some dangerous offense to the team.

Cullen Potter all the way.

Highest ceiling of anyone not named Ryabkin, and doesn't come with the baggage.

The only knock is that he's small, but you can surround him with beef later.

Have heard Flames being high on Gastrin, McKinney and Zharovksy, but I think Zhar goes a bit higher than 32 so I voted Gastrin.

Gastrin to me feels like a Backlund replacement long term.

What even is Ryabkin's baggage. That he was benched in the KHL and has struggled in the USHL?

The KHL is not a young player friendly league system. It is especially hostile when they know younger players want to leave for N.A

A Russian kid moving to the USA part way through a season and finding it difficult to immediately adapt isn't a huge red flag. It is rarely an easy transition.

Am I missing something?

used the ceiling argument and went Zhark.

I think if he's off the table, likely Zonnon from this group

William Horcoff - You can't go wrong with drafting the son of former Oilers' great Shawn Horcoff!!

Edit- The Flames should trade this pick to the Oilers so they can draft the son of former Oilers' great Shawn Horcoff!!

Ryabkin will most likely be available at 54. He interviewed so poorly at the combine, he is on several teams' do not draft list. I think he will free fall, there's a chance he could be had in the 3rd round.

Flames really high on Nilsson's kid too, so that wouldn't surprise me.
