I don't usually post minor trades like this one, but..........

- I'm not familiar with this player - anyone have decent insight?
- A 2nd and a 6th round pick for a player picked in the 3rd round is impressive
- It's quiet so far tonight

Same age as Pelletier, who had better production in the AHL, and went through waivers.

Know very little but he seemed very much in the thick of things during the AHL Finals.

former Vancouver Giant and played in WJC . Had some offensive upside in junior but hasn't come through yet. Prob makes it in the bottom six in NHL.

Baffling trade and price to pay for him. Sourdif is going to need waivers starting next year and has only played 4 games in the NHL and didn't look anything special. Good wheels but that's it, no nhl level finishing or size. Someone had to be drunk to do this trade.

Sourdif was the only prospect likely to break onto the Panthers roster the way Samoskevich did last year. He's skilled, relatively quick, and has a decent shot. Plays in the tough areas as best he can. However, he's a little on the small side and he looked okay in a cup of coffee at the NHL level, but struggled to play his game against bigger faster competition.

Not sure if they just don't see a future in him or what. He's 23, so he should be ready to move up, but he just hasn't had that extra gear. Cutting bait and getting 2 draft picks for a team starved for prospects is just good asset management by Zito. It's not like there'd be a spot for him on this year's roster anyway.

It also seems weird to me because Washington has a pretty good prospect base especially for a team that has been pretty competitive with some of those guys getting close to be ready (if not already there). Adding an older prospect just doesn't seem necessary. I think it would be better to have the picks.

The Caps are losing a whole tranche of forwards to UFA this summer, and have a pretty top-heavy cap structure. Maybe they see Sourdif as a utility forward who hasn't done enough to demand much more than minimum salary.

If that's what they're after, I can understand why they would rather have that player now rather than a draft pick who could be that player five years from now. The holes need to be filled. With the cap taking a big jump, I suppose they weren't confident of getting an equivalent UFA at the cap hit they want.

He will be an nhler he's fast defensively responsible and has a bit of a scoring touch. Athletic had him as Florida's top prospect. But why the cats trade a guy they could have used on an entry level is puzzling, and also why the caps would trade so much for him, acquisition price seems quite high, as I see him as a 3rd liner. But maybe they think he can be a 2nd liner
