Taking a while to get to 5000

Immediately after the series ended, despite all the shenanigans I didn't think they'd let him go but hearing the arguments made for doing so started to make a lot of sense. And here we are. It does feel like the logical conclusion.
But to the point above me, that it did take this long, who is available that fits what Nill is after?

If the rumours are true that other teams were waiting to announce their coaching hires hoping DeBoer would be available, I wonder if the Stars purposely waited until the last teams filled their vacancies this week to make the announcement?
You have to think a bunch of coaches will have short leashes to start the season, with DeBoer first in line.

He should have been fired the day after the series. Just like Jim Hiller should have been.

He is an elite Coach, the weird stuff last series aside. I like Huska but Pete is in a different universe. I don't see us making the move but someone is going to get a high-end HC late in the cycle.

WC teams need a coach that can game plan against the Oilers. Pete isn't it. Pittsburgh probably wishing they waited an extra week.
Maybe the Stars hire Woodcroft in hopes he is the guy.

They are going to want an experienced guy with a winning rep, so Love isn't a likely candidate.

Word was, the Stars players were not complimentary during their exit interviews. He's a good coach, but it looks like he lost the room.

Question. After critiquing coaches when they're fired/hired, what does a good or bad coach look like? What makes DeBoer a good or bad coach? To me getting your players to play hard is part of it, which Dallas largely did, but I have come to the conclusion that I don't know what happens behind the scenes to make a coach good or bad since we aren't privy to their practices or other elements to see how coaches handle players.

There were rumours players didn’t like him. Have to think this will put the Robertsons trade rumours to bed.

It depends on your definition, of course.
But DeBoer has been to the finals twice, the semi-finals 6 times, and the second round once. He's had a winning percentage over .600 9 times, and two of those were over .700.
Whether he's a "good" coach depends on how you look at it, but he definitely has gotten decent results.

Why, what benefit to anyone is there doing a week ago vs. now? I can literally only think of benefits to taking their time to fire him, which include - time to disconnect from an emotional loss (make sure you are making a decision with your head vs. heart), time to get more information on the season, the playoffs, and very specifically the bizarre game 7 situation from other members of your organization to inform your decision.

His comments about Oettinger after the series were pretty stupid too. I feel they had to decide to either keep one or the other.

I think he's like Boudreau in that he's had some really good rosters to work with to prop his numbers up. Id argue he's one of the reasons the Sharks never won a cup and he almost did it again to Dallas.

Fully agree. Oettinger could be one of the best goalies in the league. For him to come out so aggressively to throw him under the bus also makes me question something about Oettinger too.

Not often you see two head coaches in the same season basically write up their own pink slips but as with Torts, DeBoer kind of fired himself.

I guess it's possible that Carolina will axe Rod the Bod, since they have a similar resume. I wish the Flames would have the "problem" of getting to the conference finals every year

The owner was dead set against this move so it speaks volumes about the job he did and the feedback they got to do this.
Dallas is a flawed team but Pete sucked. They should have fired him during the season.
