Default Off-season thread

We will use this thread to track various activities for our off-season.

Effective immediately trading can resume. However, we are finished well ahead of the NHL season so it will be some time until re-rates are out. Teams can trade players and make decisions without those new ratings just know that it is both an opportunity and a risk – as your expected rating may differ from what is in the package. But projecting this is part of the fun of the off-season.

Note that when we start to review potential re-rates the commissioners will be under a trade freeze. We will let the league know when this is happening. My intent is to use the same package as this year if it’s available.

I need volunteers for the following. If people who have done these tasks in the past want to do them again, they are more than welcome to do so. Just let me know to confirm.
- Someone to maintain and update the draft pick list
- Someone to do the same for UFAs

Here is the order I expect things to be in, at this stage. Again please appreciate the fluidity of everything so this may change.

- Resumptions of trading: Can start now. Please remember to update any draft picks exchanged in the thread, once it is created.

- Rollover (TBD when Cam can do it and once the UFA and Draft Pick threads are created: 1 year advancement on ages and contracts)

- Releasing of players: Once the rollover is done. NOT before.

- Draft Lottery: TBD but expect to do it in the week or 2. I will schedule a time so at least 2 other GMs can witness.

- Our draft: Saturday June 21st, 10 am Calgary time.

- Re-rates and new RFA/UFA grids (if re-rate packages are available earlier we will pull this ahead of the draft)
- RFA re-signing
- UFA re-signing
- UFA batches

A couple of immediate actions/reminders
- MOST IMPORTANT: If you are unsure if you wish to remain GM of your team please let us know sooner rather than later. It is only fair to the new GM that they have the off-season to prepare their team

- If you have any questions about rules, please ask

- Remember you do NOT need cap space to sign RFAs but you DO need cap space to sign your UFAs. And all UFAs re-signed are 3 years and 1 way. You cannot trade UFA rights. You must re-sign them or not sign them.

- Once releases are permitted (after the rollover), if you release a player please post in the free agency thread.

- If you trade or acquire a draft pick please post in the draft pick thread

- You an email cphltrade any conditions that need to be deleted

Immediate things you should be doing:

- Prepare for the draft
- If you owe conditional picks in the 2025 draft – take care of them sooner rather than later
- Update your trade block
- If you have players on one way contracts down in the AHL, bring them back up to the CPHL, otherwise you won’t be able to submit UFA offers even for your own players
- Activate any players on the IR
- Trade, trade, trade!

Couple other things
- You may not sign any free agents that are in the system already. The only ones you can re-sign are ones that aren't in the DB at all that you request to be added
- The watchdog is off its leash. You do not need to be roster or cap compliant in the off-season. Per above, you do need cap space to re-sign or sign a UFA

If anything is unclear PLEASE ask questions.

To set expectations sounds like early June for re-rates based on when the third party package will be released.

I thought the watchdog was off? I got an email about being not roster or cap compliant.

The rollover has been complete meaning all ages and contracts have been advanced.
2025 draft picks have been removed so must be traded as a condition now, and posted in the draft pick thread.
Even though 2027 draft picks are now available to be traded you cannot do that until AFTER the draft. Per the rules you can only trade picks from the next 2 drafts.
I've added 5M to each team so everyone has 75M in cap (not including any cap already traded) and I've also awarded the bonus amounts.

Thanks again for doing this Fire!

How do you buy players out and how does that count on the cap?

You release them from your page. There is a link to do that. And then these rules apply. When you release a player you should check to see if the right buyout amount was calculated as often the system gets it wrong:

Releasing Players (Buyouts)*
If a player is released (Bought out) before his contract has ended, the team releasing him is required to pay a portion of the player’s salary. Any player bought out by his team will re-enter the UFA market for all teams to bid on. The team must pay a buyout based on the value of the contract per year – and the number of years left:
· 1 million/year and under–30%
· 2 million/year and under–40%
· 3 million/year and under–50%
· 4 million/year and under–60%
· 6 million/year and under–70%
· 8 million/year and under–80%
· Over 8 million/year–85%
· All numbers are rounded up to the nearest $100k*
The team must pay the above percentage multiplied by the number of years remaining on the contract. For instance a player signed to a 3 year, 8 million/year contract would have the following buyout (80%*8.0*3 years=19.2 million).

The entire amount is applied to the cap in the season that the player is bought out. All buy-outs are counted against the CPHL salary cap.

Nope. Where is that rumor coming from? The package we use hasn't been released yet.

Oh. I saw a well known package listed on sths forums. Sounded similar to what we've been using. I thought it might be the one.

Now that re-rates are out, what's the ETA for RFA/UFA grids?
