Yeah, it's hard to suggest he's not good at coaching hockey teams. Wonder what the pushback on this hire will be in Anaheim though given the stuff in Chicago.
Bowman has a job, Cheveldayoff has a job, Quenneville has a job. Only MacIsaac and McDonough actually paid a price.
Was there ever any doubt that the old boys club would leave the door open for these guys to return? This hiring feels like an inevitability and the only surprise is that he didn't resurface with the Oilers who have the market cornered on bad taste.

they will likely see this as a "missed opportunity"

Bowman was out of a job for three years. Quenneville for four.
People can argue that wasn’t sufficient of a price to pay. But it’s not zero price.
And I don’t think this is a case of some network of old boys protecting one another. Pro sports is extraordinarily results-driven. People with a proven track record of success are forgiven a lot. That’s as true for players as it is for coaches and GMs. Just look at the number of convicted felons who take the field to play in the NFL every Sunday.

In our current culture, perceived capability often outweighs ethics and morality.
It's the culture set from the top down of our society. Trump won a second term after all.
Working in the NHL, whether as a coach or a player, is a position of privilege. With that comes a responsibility, and I believe the league should uphold a certain standard of character for those in these roles. In my view, Joel Quenneville failed to meet what should be the standard.

Yup. I see it every year at our firm with the group of promotes at the higher levels. We evaluate/promote people based on a vast set of metrics but have nothing to determine a person's character.

Just out of curiosity, how many do you think that is?

That they were allowed to come back at all and the organization has had no real punitive remediation is a stain on the NHL. #### the Oilers. #### the Ducks and #### the Chicago Blackhawks. I hope Quenville and Bowman never get a good nights sleep and I hope Rocky Wirtz is in an awful place.
