Icon36 Rangers fire Peter Laviolette and Assistant Phil Housley

In the unsurprising news of the day the Rangers let Laviolette and his assistant go.

What I find somewhat surprising is that Drury keeps his job for now, as he mishandled the the team all year long.

https://www.nhl.com/rangers/news/ran...aching-changes

Quote:
New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that he has relieved head coach Peter Laviolette and associate head coach Phil Housley of their duties.

“Today I informed Peter Laviolette and Phil Housley that we’re making a coaching change,” said Drury. “I want to thank them both and wish them and their families all the best going forward. Peter is first class all the way, both professionally and personally, and I am truly grateful for his passion and dedication to the Rangers in his time as head coach.
Where does Laviolette end up next, and will Dolan and the Rangers bring Torts back for another kick at the can?

Any team that brings back Torts deserves the #### storm they'll get.

Seems like Phil Housley is not doing so well with this NHL coaching stuff.

Hopefully whomever they hire instigates major fight with Adam Fox and makes them more dysfunctional.

They were so terrible defensively this season whenever I watched them. A complete tire fire in their own end every game. No surprise they were let go.

Not a Rangers fan, but very surprised that Drury hasn’t been let go.

Replacing Laviolette with Torts has never worked out. But it's quite possible they switch jobs again.

Shades of the Flames in 1995, when Doug Risebrough fired Dave King, trying to shift the blame from himself for the rotten job he did as GM. Risebrough was fired before the end of the year.

Would Housley be a fit on Huska’s staff given his history here?

Buffalo has squandered a lot because of Adams… neck and neck for who is the worst decision maker for their respective franchise.

Wonder if that’s it for Laviolette and Tortillas in the NHL. Hously also sucks.

This really does feel like one of those Chiarelli instances where the GM firing seems inevitable, but ownership has decided to let them inflict maximum damage first. I wonder what Drury’s Koskinen signing will be.
