Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2025 - Round 18
Welcome to the annual Calgarypuck Prospect Poll!
As per usual ...
1. Rank the prospects as you like. Upside, chances, or trade value
2. I will try and do one a day which should get us to mid to late August
3. Graduates and/or runoffs will be determined in each case
4. Please don't complain that the polls are going to deep. We go until all the prospects are ranked, so don't vote if you don't want to.

Solo has already played a bunch of games for us. That’s why I’m voting him over King etc right now

For me Solo is the last player on this ledge.
The next ledge is the long shots.

I think players like Solovyov and Morton will see a few games in the next two years in the NHL. King to me being a couple years younger than Morton seems a more probable bet to get into more than 100 games.
But it's getting to the point where it's what cup of coffee guys find a way to stick in the league for 100 games or maybe more and long shots who pop at a later age and surprise.

There are still 10 names I think are interesting- I’m also thinking at least 2 guys outside that tier of 10 play nhl games. Went Solo today I have 4 guys in this current tier

Crazy how the 18th ranked prospect (by us) is one that actually played NHL games last year.

Its like that every year, every team has tweeners. Cole Schwindt was 25th last year and was claimed off waivers. Kerins was 25th. Klapka 18th.
2023 had Pospisil at 21, 2022 Walker Duehr at 20.

Think there are a lot of picks based on junior stats which tend to be inflated for prospects vs pro stats which get substantially reduced due to the level of competition.
A lot of hope that the shiny new thing can transfer to the pros. The majority don’t. Then it’s on to the next shiny thing.

Although this years draft (the 18 year olds) has the most still waiting in queue
The 2024 draft performed well and voting followed for sure

The next tier of prospects is going to be interesting for sure.
I’m voting for high floor and low ceiling right now, but will switch to long shots and low floor and mid ceiling next.
Some of the prospects drafted this year and last fall into that along with Poirier, and the Russian goalies
Ciona I find intriguing though, as I think he probably has a decent shot to play NHL games, but not necessarily up the lineup.

I don’t understand how Poirier is still on the board. And losing. Hot take is he makes the team this year.

Three years on the Wranglers, and his offensive production the third year was barely better than his first. Since it was primarily his offence that made him an interesting prospect in the first place, that lack of progress is concerning. And his runway is getting pretty short.
I'll be voting for Poirier pretty soon, but it seems like we're not going to see the upside we once hoped for from him.
