I really don’t think that was intentional. The way he tried to move the ref out of the way, made it seem like for a brief moment, he thought it was a player. Hr felt bad right away.

I mean Wideman didn't just attack a linesman...like why would anyone do that? it wasn't even a ref and it wasn't even a heated game. He was out of it and put up his hands to react. He went over to apologize to the linesman during the next TV timeout and they both had a laugh. (I was there) Linesman didn't even leave the game...he got some advice from Lionel Hutz postgame though.
Not to bring up that can of worms

Wideman had a long history of losing his temper. There was nothing on that play to indicate he was out of it, he was upset the official standing right there didn't make an obvious call and he lost control. I have yet to see any person not on this board that watches hockey see it any other way. The league didn't buy that either and rightfully so. I hate that the Flames paid for years with obvious bias officiating aimed against them but Wideman just blew a fuse and did something stupid, plain and simple. Now if you argued he didn't mean to cross check him that hard I could maybe buy that.

Again a linesman...who doesn't call penalties. Everyone always says it was a REF!
And a doctor and the third party arbitrator verified his concussion and agreed it was an acident so. There are two non CP members.
Like I said I was at the game and saw the two of them have a laugh about it shortly afterwards.

Set up by the team. If he could prove he was not in control of his facilities he would not have recieved any discipline at all. Why did the league doctors disagree? If he was out of it why was he in control and laughing about it on the bench? Why would he still skate and function perfectly fine. Why have I never seen another player who is rattled from a hit cross check an official? It doesn't add up.
Wasn’t he going to retire anyways? His claims of not being able to work seems line extortion and getting a lawyer looking for a payday.
Being concussed can feel like being drunk right away.
Forced retirment at the end of that season...he dropped the puck 30 seconds later and I'm telling you the two of them had a laugh about it during the next TV timeout. Some lawyer got in his ear.
Oh well, it's history. We will never know one way or another and it no longer matters. It is certainly nothing to get heated about. We all get at each other on here about stuff too easily as it is.

I mean Paul Kariya came back and scored a goal and he doesn't remember it or the next week after the Stevens hit.
Also NHL due process takes a month...they suspend first and ask questions later. The doctors and arbitrator did rule he was concussed and that it was an accident like read the report. A judge also threw out the linesmans lawsuit and ordered DON to pay the Flames legal bills.
