Whether he finds a way to get back into the Avs lineup in the playoffs or not, it's a great story to see him progress all the way to being ready to get back into game shape for the Avs.

2-3 years is a long time!

His loss in his prime pretty much ended the Avs hope of a dynasty. He was 29 years old, with 59 points in 51 regular season games, 22 points in 20 playoff games, a heavy all-around game, and all the leadership intangibles. You can’t replace someone like that in the lineup, even with the cap space.
