How Blues And Utah Climbed Into NHL's Western Playoff Race – And How Canucks And Flames Let Them
All season long, a handful of the NHL’s Eastern Conference clubs have been jockeying for playoff positions. By comparison, the West looked straightforward.
That has changed since play resumed after February’s 4 Nations Face-Off.
Future Watch Update - 18.03.25
Hunter Laing - Right Wing - Saskatoon Blades
24 goals, 21 assists, 45 points in 61 games
Laing had another big week, as the Blades continue to jockey for position in the East Division.
Flames’ road trip represents a homecoming for Matt Coronato
The goal of hockey is to score more goals than the other team, so players that can score goals are highly valued by National Hockey League clubs. But it can sometimes take awhile for offensive-minded players to figure out the rest of the game.
Way back at the 2021 NHL Draft, the Calgary Flames selected winger Matt Coronato from the United States Hockey League’s Chicago Steel. At the time, Coronato was one of the top pure goal-scorers in his draft class, having led the USHL with 48 goals in his draft year – 16 more than the second-most player – and finished second in the league in points.
Jacob Battaglia could be a steal for the Calgary Flames
It’s a consensus opinion among fans that the Calgary Flames did amazing work in the 2024 NHL Draft. The team seemed to do its homework, making skillful selections at every pick resulting in the Flames adding many intriguing names into their prospect pool.
Among those names is forward Jacob Battaglia, who was drafted in the second round, 62nd overall.

I would get immense satisfaction if Bahl scores on Markstrom and shuts down the Devils to no goals. A man can dream. Anyways, I’m still cheering for wins to make the playoffs. Go Flames!

I dislike Markstrom and wish to see him lose. By a lot.

I don't dislike Markstrom, but I hope we get to score on the first shot of the game, as payback for the good old times.

One game at a time, but probably need 3-0 or 2-0-1 from the next 3 winnable games to set them up to have a chance.
They're having a harder time solving the top teams these days, so have to make hay against mid teams or ones dealing with injuries like NJ.

My lord Weegar dominated last game. I mean a ton of players did but I dont think Weegar gets enough love for his game and leadership. Future captain IMO bet on it

Also, a Flames win is most important but looking at the Blues & Canucks tonight. Obviously a 3 point game is all but guaranteed but we'd want the Blues to win in regulation correct?

I'd be ok with a 3 point game in this one.
Marky is getting the start tonight.

if there was ever a time to string together some wins, these next three(to go with the last game) would be it.
Let's go streaking!!

Hopefully Yegor shows the Devils they made a mistake by sitting him out during the playoffs.

I would think so given Flames have two games in hand on them.
Although STL plays Chicago at home on Saturday, so maybe they could use a pause on this run they're on.
There's no good answer to this one tonight.
Flames gotta do their thing first though.

Pachal really must be in dog house with Miro getting a 2nd straight game. I love wolf but I think I would have gone back with the hot hand of vladdy for this

I doubt Pachal is in a doghouse. They're just managing games for the D, both for potential playoff rest and giving them all a chance to play. I bet there's an even rotation of Bean, Miro, and Pachal the rest of the season. Maybe even Hanley gets a couple off.

If Vladar was playing, I would enjoy a goalie fight.

My guess is Pachal has a nagging lower body injury and the resulting lost step makes Miromanov a better option. But that’s purely speculation.
