It’s finally here, gang: the 2024-25 NHL season’s trade deadline. While we’re not quite sure what will unfold for the Calgary Flames, we do know one thing: the Flames have complicated trade conditions they’ll need to untangle when it comes to their first round picks.
The Calgary Flames headed into Texas on Thursday for their clash with the Dallas Stars with a big opportunity ahead of them. After earning five points in their five prior road games on their lengthy six game trek, they had the opportunity to finish their trip above .500 with a win.
Well, they couldn’t quite hold onto a third period lead as they seemed to run out of steam, but the Flames earned a crucial point via a 3-2 overtime loss to the Stars.
Calgary Flames prospect Zayne Parekh made history on Thursday night, scoring a power-play goal to become the first OHL defenceman to reach the 100-point mark in a single season in more than a decade.
Ryan Huska is in the midst of his second full season as the head coach of the Calgary Flames, and many fans have been quick to blame him for the team’s mediocre performance this year. The Flames sit at a record of 29–23–10 and are currently just one points above the Vancouver Canucks in the race for the second wild card spot. The Flames were projected prior to the year to be firmly in the basement by most, with many predicting that this season would be the true start to a rebuild.
A year ago, the Calgary Flames were the proverbial main character of the trade market. Seemingly everything went through them, and general manager Craig Conroy was one of the busiest people in hockey for much of the season.
The Calgary Flames concluded their 2025 Trade Deadline with the same roster they’ve had for the previous six weeks, a welcome departure to previous seasons where the club saw plenty of upheaval and player movement.
Craig Conroy, the Flames general manager, said on TradeCentre that the club would be quiet during one of the busiest days on the hockey calendar. He held true to his word, telling reporters in Dallas afterwards that his club never got close to a deal. Management stayed in the city following the Flames’ 3-2 overtime loss to the Stars.
Amidst the usual mayhem that precedes the annual trade freeze, Conroy opted to stand pat.
A slow-news day, actually a no-news day, but also a clear message to Flames’ current cast — go finish what you started.
Flames-Habs is always a big event in the Puppet household. I really, really wanted to do an animation for this game but time wasn't on my side this week. Here's a rerun:
Spoiler!
Go Flames

The Habs have a couple really nice pieces on their roster but I like the Flames buy-in on a system that could yield success in a low scoring playoff series. It was refreshing to have a GM with the restraint on TDL day to not spend future capital on temporary fixes at this point in the rosters make-up. I’ll be happy to see offense come from anyone on the Flames. Go Flames Go!
