After years of using free P2P music downloading services, I decided I'd spend some money with Napster. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against paying for music, but I see no reason why i can't sample music before I buy it.
Napster has a great concept. For $10 a month, I can have unlimited access to it's music library. I can play songs anytime I want. The computer is hooked up through my stereo, so I'd have access to a vast music library. If I want to download a song, then it costs about $1 per tune or $10 per album. Seems pretty reasonable.
The trouble started when Napster's sign-up service wouldn't accept my billing info on my credit card. I purchase quite a bit of stuff online, this is the first time I've had trouble. Napster doesn't allow me to insert a space in my 6-character postal code. The credit card company requires that space in order for my billing address to be correct.
After several attempts to contact Napster to try and work around this problem, I'm still waiting to hear a response. Does this sound like a company that's looking for business? I find the lack of response somewhat annoying (Napster: putting the cuss in customer).
Hey, it's not like I'm not trying but Napster makes it easy to continue using free P2P services.

Apple's Itunes store didn't accept Canadian customers for the longest time--I'm not sure if they've fixed that yet or if it's still US only.

I don't believe i-tunes is available for Canadian customers yet, or that's likely where I'd be spending money.

Nope. No itunes music store for Canada yet. Very annoying. I'm guessing due to our slack laws for downloading music that we've ticked off the wrong people south of the border. They just launched the music store for Germany, France and the UK. Still no Canada.

Just as a side note, have you tried Limewire? I find it pretty darn good. Free stuff, but lots to choose from.

Yep I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of iTunes Music Store to canada. I have tried a couple others and have been extremely disappointed with them.

Yeah, Limewire is great. Definitely my downloading tool of choice.

It truly rocks doesn't it? I love it. And, for a change, its Mac-friendly for people like me! I love it. Only bad part is when you put in the band name and the song name and it gives you EVERY listing for that band.

Yeah, my only complaint about Limewire is that it doesn't look at quotation marks in searches. So when I try to search for music by 'The Jam', I get about 500 Pearl Jam results. It doesn't really seem to have exclusionary searches.
