Tampa putting the band back together? Maybe they'll offer the Flames something for Coleman.

Bjorkstrand was very good for Seattle. Kind of surprised to see them move on from him.

Seattle is not making the playoffs this year. Makes sense for them to move vets from an asset management perspective. I'm assuming that Tampa is giving a healthy package back for these two.

Man, Seattle went the opposite way of Vegas as far as success goes.
They are old, expensive and haven't won #### yet

To be expected from expansion teams. Most expansion teams don't have the luxury of acquiring stars like Stone and Eichel so quickly. The fact that Seattle made it to the second round of the playoffs in year two is a pretty good accomplishment.
Selling off two of their vets is the right move.

I could see Conroy stepping in here to help facilitate this trade.
Those two make a combined 10.5M

Let's not help Tampa Bay FFS.
Seattle can do their own retention.

Gourde is UFA this summer and Bjorkstrand has another year left.

Bjorkstrand has another year at 5.4m, while Gourde has had hernia surgery. Will be interesting to see the details of this re: value and retention.

And signed for an additional year.
He’s not overpaid.
TB would need to give up real assets for him. Plus their pick cost of retention.

Toronto was allegedly looking at Gourde as an option, and they'll want to add to keep up with the Jonses

Meh, this seems like a good opportunity to utilize our cap situation to add an asset for nothing.

I agree. I know they say they have no problem doing it , but I thought I heard rumours that the flames have a heavy price set for retaining as 3rd party.

Why wouldn't Seattle take the asset and do their own retention?

The thinking was that Tampa likely needs double retention on Gourde to fit this in, but of course they could be sending back salary via a roster player as well. Although, with Tampa's recent roster moves - they might be able to fit them both in with just 50% retention on each.
Seattle may also not want to use two retention slots in one trade if they are looking to make other trades.

What is a couple million and a half bucks over two retention slots really going to bring back in an asset from Tampa? A 5th round pick?
There has to be a better value opportunity to utilize our two open spots than this.
If Seattle wouldn't want to use 2 of their 3 retention slots in one trade, why would we want to use 2 of our 2 retention slots in one trade?
