It’s the type of thing that will garner attention and raise eyebrows among Americans.

They are waging economic warfare, their government is now our adversary.

A symbolic action, but one I hope Flames fans do tomorrow.

Obviously not undercutting the importance of what you’re talking about here, but it’ll garner attention and raise eyebrow among Americans… that play for our team, mostly.

And, should it find it’s way behind that, there’s probably no better way to sell attacks on Canada (political, economic or otherwise) to the general public in the US than showing how much Canadians hate them.

I have family in the states that did not vote for this. I would never disrespect another nations anthem.

You can be angry at Trump, but the majority of the people in their country do not want to add Tariffs on Canada.

My problem is with America they voted him. The Tariffs problem was nothing new that he had not promised. Compared to the 2020 election had half the voters who obstained in protest that voted against trump last time he wouldn't be president.

I think it would come off as disrespectful to Americans who live in Calgary and particularly the American players. Not to mention the singer. The orange goblin and his MAGA cult probably couldn't care less or would just feel emboldened from it.

It's more of a Donald thing than an American thing.

Pretty sure the vast majority of Americans don't want it and would prefer a strong & healthy trade relationship with Canada. Also given the fact that the Trump tariffs will hurt their pocketbooks the most of any one.

Not sure about this. Do you think they will spare the Canadian anthem when Canadian teams play in America? Moreover, we just added an American to the team and it is not the welcome you want to send.

I would rather cut a trade deal with China but I like the sentiment. There was never any reason why we would not cut a trade deal with China and now that they are the more reasonable trade partner we have all the more reason to do so.

I think playing national anthems ahead of a sporting contest between teams representing cities, is ridiculous.

We’re not going into battle for our countries. We’re playing a game and that should be all the night is about, enjoying the game. I’m old enough to remember being at a Flames game during the same week as the Habs’ fans booed the US anthem. We didn’t do it then, we stood respectfully. Later that night, our Captain, Craig Conroy, commented on the respect shown by Calgary fans.

As ridiculous as playing the anthems are, booing them creates division, potentially within our own team and shows disrespect to the many wonderful Americans within our own organisation.
