I am surprised we haven't seen hand wringing about him walking yet. Hopefully he wins it!

there are nearly 100 nominees. Hope he makes it to the top 10 finalists. I think he is close, but it will be tough as it is debatable if he is even the best player on his team. Plus he is in Hockey East, so competing with stars at BC and BU for votes. I believe there is one finalist from each of the 6 conferences, then 4 open spots for anyone from any conference.
BTW, Sam Morton was a top 10 finalist last season. The Flames have had a lot of finalists and winners through the years.

Then we're behind the 8 ball on the hand wringing.
I guess we just didn't realize what the Flames had with Suniev. I'm there was plenty of worrying about Gaudreau very early on.

Not sure if you can take age into it.... but if you can...O Hara is 2.5 years older than Suniev.

Is it reasonable to expect him to get a contract offer at the end of the school year?

I wonder if they sign him after his season is over or if he goes back for a third year?

Suniev is only 19, right there for the conference goal scoring lead, and one of the leading point getters in H-EAST.
It's a lot different than comparing him to a 24 year old Morton last year. Suniev is on an elite trajectory and outscoring some very high profile NHL draftees at a very young age for the NCAA.

Agreed. He's also playing in a far superior conference to Morton. The difference between the two big conferences (Hockey East and NCHC) and the other conferences is massive. Almost need an NHLE type of adjustment to stats.

If Suniev doesn't sign at the end of the 25/26 season and goes back for a 4th year of NCAA in 26/27 then we can start hand wringing.
Even then he'd have to pass on signing an ELC late in the 26/27 season and wait until August 15th to sign somewhere else.
I think we're good. My bet is he signs an ELC with the Flames sometime in the next 15 months.

This is looking like a sneaky good pickup! Early days of course.
3rd round 80th pick. With the flames own pick from NJ!
Flames first traded it to the Seattle Kraken in the Calle Jarnkrok trade. The Kraken then used the pick to get Oliver Bjorkstrand from the Columbus Blue Jackets, who sent it to the New Jersey Devils for Damon Severson’s rights. Then, finally, it made its way back to Calgary in the deal that saw Tyler Toffoli go to the Devils.
