Is this to create a spot for Klingberg?

I thought it was a poor choice for him as a UFA...Guy can be a good 4th liner but on the Oilers that means zero ice time and getting waived so they can add a bad dman

He is a RHS and decent at faceoffs (60.3% this season) and his contract expires this season and has a low cap hit of $900k. He is 38 years old though.

First set of dominos to fall for cap savings. Next will be forcing someone with a cold onto LTIR.

Improvement over Rooney? Faceoffs wise yes. Was good when he was here but that was many moons ago.

He is too defensively responsible for the Oilers

Faceoffs and penalty kill, two things we are bad at. Worth a claim. If it doesn’t work out, waive again and send to the Wranglers.

They already have a spot for Klingberg. This is them trying to get out of LTIR usage so they can accrue cap space before the deadline.

Yeah...he could not be any worse an option than Rooney.

I would grab him too. If it doesn’t work out send him to Wranglers

Tre Probably should have re-signed him to a deal. They let him go and replaced him with Rooney, pro scouting failure imo.

But not in favor of the Flames picking him up now though. That's pointless. Any one of our hybrid wingers like Pospisil or most AHLers could do an equivalent/improved job to Rooney. A waiver claim of a 37 year old is not necessary

The second you get that Oilers taint on ya, just never come back. Loved him as a Flame but hate him as an Oiler.

Big pass

I'd only consider him if the scouts think he still has it in him to keep up in our system, he would only be replacing Rooney, and not taking a spot away from the younger guys. Otherwise, pass.

Meh....there is zero risk in it and he has to be a better option than Rooney.

Just his FO ability would be welcome.....maybe he can work with the others on the club and help them.
