Thanks for these again grand poobah....always like to compare what i see to your thoughts/analysis.

Thought Rooney had one of best games of the year, albeit in limited minutes.

Happy 2025 to all!

How has Hanley looked since taking Miromanovs spot beside Weegar? Is he in over his head playing top-4 minutes?

In a playoff spot on New Year's day, and 4 points out of 2nd in the division... I would have bet pretty heavily against that, if it were offered up in October.

And they are full marks for it - they aren't just being carried by great goaltending, they have been extremely tough on home ice, play hard, play a tight style, and give themselves a chance to win almost every night.

No matter how far into the rebuild camp you are, you have to admire and enjoy what they're doing.

He isn't in over his head. Obviously, he is just a placeholder out there, but he is filling that role sufficiently - you rarely notice him, which is pretty much the definition of an adequate #6.

Yeah may as well cheer for a playoff spot, enjoy the ride, and hope the Florida / Cgy gap is tight. (right now it's 7 draft spots)

And if they both make the playoffs then the order depends on what happens, which would be funny. The only bad thing that could happen is finishing with the 11-16 pick.

If we aren't getting a top 10 pick, we want FLA to not win their division, and not make the conference final.

If that happens, and we make the playoffs, there isn't much difference in the picks.

I was unopposed to Pelletier being being sent down at the start of the season, and it looks like the time with the Wranglers helped him find his game again, somewhat. He's found ways to contribute since the recall, and depending on who stays and goes by the deadline, he might just become a permanent fixture. Nice to see.

With him, and the often mentioned Coronato, Zary, Wolf, we have a good young nucleus starting to form. Parekh will only add to that when he arrives. We just need that dynamic presence up front, ideally a center as we know, to really get this group moving ahead.

Huska, along with the vets Backlund, Coleman, Kadri, Huberdeau, and Andersson have really done well shepherding this group along.

Players filling in the gaps have been generally good, though of course inconsistent. That's why your players like Mantha, Kuzmenko, and Sharagovich were there to be had in the first place.

The start of 2025 looks to be much more fun than expected!

I'm more worried about the gap.

If the Flames draft 11th overall and the Panthers drop 17th overall I'm pretty content with a -6.

That feels like a bullet dodged.

If the Flames draft 11th and the Panthers win the cup again and draft 32nd, the 21 gap will be tough.

And as I argued at the time when people were losing their minds over Pelletier being demoted (and on waivers) ... I'm not sure Pelletier gets to where he is now if he makes the team as the 13th forward and is in and out of the lineup every second game.

He's probably looking very much like a guy that needs to be in the AHL in November and December.

Now not so much.

It was worth the gamble to get the redialed Pelletier back by losing the one that was unlikely to find his way on another path.
