The B.C. Lions and Toronto Argonauts swung a big trade on Monday as award-winning offensive lineman Dejon Allen was sent out west in exchange for Canadian linebacker Ryder Varga and a second-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft.
Allen has been named All-East Division for three straight seasons in Toronto at right tackle, helping the team win the Grey Cup in 2022 and 2024. The six-foot-three, 300-pound native of Compton, Calif. has also earned All-CFL honours the past two years and was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2023.
“In order for our team to take the next step, improving the offensive line was something that was a priority for us,” said B.C. general manager Ryan Rigmaiden in a statement. “Adding a talent like Dejon immediately improves our run and pass game while also adding grit and toughness to our identity. He’s a special player at a premier position and we’re proud to have him.”

I think Varga is a pretty good player, that said BC wins this trade. I didn't include it in my post above, but Allen is set to make 210 grand this season in hard money which is pretty pricey for a O-lineman. Makes one wonder if BC might have to part with a certain wide receiver that had good chemistry with VA last season.

I was interested in Fields. We will see how a 70-year-old coordinator works here.
I know dash_pinched talked about Ryan Phillips, it was interesting to see him get demoted on the Lions Staff from DC to a defensive backs coach.

Yeah, I don't know how well that is sitting with Ryan Phillips. I think he played under Mike Benevides so maybe they have a good relationship. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

They usually release the new schedule in mid-December, but nothing as of yet.
“The CFL and its teams are actively working on a 2025 schedule that will optimally balance a variety of competing factors. That schedule will be announced early in 2025,” a league spokesperson wrote in an email to the Spectator.

Optimally balance a variety of competing factors? They forget to renew their Office365 license? Nine teams in mostly vacant buildings. Copy / paste the previous year and move on. There’s no exotic variations to a CFL schedule.

A lot of player complaints about food and travel. That might play a part in this.

Chris Jones is joining Bill Belichick at the University of North Carolina...
University of North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick has hired Chris Jones as a defensive assistant, per sources.
Jones has already been working with the Tar Heels staff as Belichick tries to build a winning program for the 2025 season. Freddie Kitchens, who hired Jones as a senior defensive specialist with the Cleveland Browns for the 2019 season, was UNC’s offensive coordinator last year and he’s expected to stay in that role under Belichick.

From head coach to special teams coordinator - That's quite the fall
The Ottawa Redblacks are hiring Rick Campbell as their new special team coordinator, as per play-by-play man AJ Jakubec.
Campbell was hired as Ottawa’s head coach when the team was an expansion franchise in 2014, a role he held for six years. He posted a 44-62-2 record with the team, which made three Grey Cup appearances during his tenure, winning one in 2016. Campbell was also named the league’s Coach of the Year in 2015.

He's probably still a good defensive coach, just not HC material.
Im just glad his sour sorry ass is out of the CFL and as I am already a Tarheel loather it makes it that much more fun to cheer against them.

If anyone knows Jake's strength's and weaknesses it's Dave as he pretty well reduced the playbook to horizonta/short/intermediate passes for him. He's going to have to dust the cobwebs off the playbook pages full of deep routes to take advantage of Adams strengths and I'm looking forward to a more varied and explosive offense.
