Lightning 8 Flames 3
Lightning 8 Flames 3
- Yuck
- Flames outclassed completely
- Did they quit on Vladar in the third?
- Huberdeau with two points to run his streak to six games (also had a painful first period turn over)

Worst game of the season by the defense, IMO.
Bahl actually had a bounce-back game, after a couple tough ones on the raod (at least for the first 40 minutes), but overall, the D was atrocious.
Weegar and Miromanov were just awful.
I actually had to look at the boxscore to see if Coronato played - I never once noticed him in the entire game. Which could be a reflection on his lime-mates too. Didn't notice Backlund much either, except when he got caught from behind and completely outworked.
Throw out the tape and get ready for the next one.

I think in last nights game, if you didn't get noticed it was likely a good thing.

First time this season where I felt a substantial portion of the game was mailed in.
They abandoned Vladar pretty bad after it went to 6-3.
It's tough to set out to out work every team you play. Wears you out. We may be seeing a drift in focus, and maybe a rise in the average opponent's effort level as well.

I think this is definitely part of it. I have always felt that the level of play can be defined in quarters, with each 20 games ramping up to a higher level than the one before it. Weaker tames can look competitive in the first quarter, and young teams can get by on the fact that they are playing with more energy.
But with each quarter of the season, that gets tougher. And as it does, this type of game starts to happen more and more often. Also, losing wears on you, and after a while, it is only natural to throw in the towel a little quicker.
From here on out, they are not going to be able to outwork the opposition as often. And if they aren't outworking them, and outgoaltending them, they aren't going to win very often.

Flames wanted out of that building pretty badly in the third period. The Bolts decided to continue to skate.
