News Roundup

Three takeaways as Wolf backstops Flames to (maybe) their best performance of the season

I thought he was awesome tonight, said Flames head coach Ryan Huska. I was hoping that one he could maybe find a way to keep out because he deserved to not let anything get by him with the way he was playing tonight.

Game Notes: Canucks vs. Flames

Tonight marks the second of four meetings between the Canucks and Flames this season: Oct. 9 (home, 6-5 OTL), Nov. 12 (home), Dec. 31 (road), and Mar. 12 (road).
Vancouver is 119-141-33-11 all-time against Calgary, including a 69-58-18-9 record at home.

Canucks look to break home slide in game against the Flames

TOP PERFORMERS: Quinn Hughes has three goals and 12 assists for the Canucks. Nils Aman has over the last 10 games.

Jonathan Huberdeau has six goals and four assists for the Flames. Matthew Coronato has over the last 10 games.

Andersson staying calm while playing on the edge to lead Flames

The word runs through Rasmus Andersson’s head, a blade slicing through the noise.

Sinnesskarp. Sinnesskarp. Sinnesskarp. Sinnesskarp.

He repeats it over and over, a mantra that settles his nerves and resets his brain and brings him back from a bad shift. There is no easy translation and, when Andersson tries to find one on a recent afternoon, he stumbles as he tries to distill the Swedish into English.

“It’s just, ‘Stay in the moment,’ pretty much,” he said. “Be mentally aware and be in the present, if I try to translate it.”

Looking forward to this one. Will there be a step back in their game given how hard they played last night? Canucks coming off a beatdown will probably be fired up.

I assume Vladar gets the start and at least a few changes with Klapka coming in for someone and maybe Barrie sitting?

Have been invited for dinner & the game at a big Canucks fan friends place tonight, I can’t wait to bring up the recent jersey toss after the Oilers game and last two home games being blowouts. Hopefully the Flames can continue the same first period they brought against the Kings because I imagine the Canucks will desperately want to right their ship. I’m loving the youth carrying the mail for the Flames and the Huberdeau - Pospisil - Kuzmenko line. Go Flames!

Back to sportsnet’s dark and gritty cameras. Was comical how the Rogers commercials during the Prime broadcast looked the same as the SN game feed.

Quick note that with the game being national, the SN Pacific channel will also be nationally available.

Expecting a loss. The whole team is probably gassed after the road trip and then a game last night. Maybe Vladar can steal one!

If the Flames win this game, we can start having serious conversations about making the playoffs.

Vancouver needs to be punished for laying an egg on Saturday.

The season split is starting to look interesting too.

They had a good first 8 games and they played well in the tough losses to Carolina and Winnipeg. (5-2-1)

Then laid an egg on the road trip to Vegas and Utah with lots going on around the team (Backlund 1000 game). (0-2-0)

Now they've put up points in 5 of the last 6 and have found their game a bit again including 60 minute effort wins over good Devils and Kings teams (3-1-2).

Even though they had a 4 game losing streak I think you could argue they've only really laid 2 eggs all season where they weren't in the game (Vegas and Utah).

They need to figure out how to play within their structure while still generating offense (that Flames 5v5 offense heat map being so heavily weighted to Left Point shots is ugly) but in a Western Conference that is pretty weak overall the playoffs are certainly a possibility.

Tickets for this one so I suspect the road trip will catch up with them and they will be down early in the third. They will make a game of it but they will be gassed after 3 in 4 and a lot of travel. Wish the game was under better circumstances but it will be fun to see this team live.

I assume Vladar gets the start tonight. Would have been cool to see Wolf play. Oh well should be fun regardless.

Go Flames Go!

Dan Vladar is 3-0 lifetime vs Canucks, rocking a 85.6% save percentage and 4.13 GAA in those games.

LOL?!
