News Roundup

Pacific Division opponents meet when Flames host the Kings

Los Angeles has a 9-4-3 record overall and a 3-3-0 record in Pacific Division games. The Kings are second in the league with 75 total penalties (averaging 4.7 per game).

The teams meet Monday for the first time this season.

2024 NHL Hall of Famer Reflects on Almost Joining the Calgary Flames

Jeremy Roenick, part of the 2024 Hockey Hall of Fame class, recently revealed just how close he came to joining the Calgary Flames during his storied NHL career.

Another Flames Comeback Masks Fatal Flaw of Sleepy Starts

The only thing better than the ability to execute third-period comebacks would be not to keep falling behind so quickly in the first place.

The Yegor Sharangovich extension could be the first miss of Craig Conroy’s GM tenure

Conroy hasn’t had many bad moves since being hired as general manager of the Calgary Flames last summer. He did luck out with Elias Lindholm, Noah Hanifin, and Chris Tanev rejecting his contract offers. Still, he had a great 2024 NHL Draft and this team looks poised to be making a reset of some sort.

Flames Takeaways: Comebacks are nice, but Calgary must find a way to start strong

The momentum the Calgary Flames built in the late stages of all three games of their eastern roadie was undeniable.

In every case it seemed inevitable they’d battle back to find the equalizer, which they did.

Stealing points in all three outings in which they faced early deficits speaks to the team’s continued belief it can bounce back against anyone, no matter how deep the hole.

watching Coronato play at Harvard, Alex Laferriere always stood out - power forward who was a great skater and accurate shot. Not surprised he has turned into a very good NHLer

I was surprised in the other thread that Miromanov isn’t highly regarded by us fans as a key piece on D and was thinking he reminds me of Bouwmeester in his tenure as a Flame. We were all underwhelmed and didn’t mind seeing him move on, but he still carved out a long career afterwards. I get the sense Miromanov is similar, so I think we need to respect he’s playing hard minutes for the Flames without a lot of experience and that his best years are still ahead of him. Anyways, sorry, this is probably the wrong thread as I can’t really tie it into today’s game vs the Kings. Go Flames.

Comparing a guy who won a cup and represented Canada on the world stage a 1st overall pick to Miramanov is something. The guy switched positions and few years ago. He was always going to be a long shot project.

It always kills me when people immediately #### on comparisons like this. Yes, of course they are not identical. But instead of just stating the obvious (but pointless), try and understand what the poster is saying.

Freddy is suggesting that Miromanov is under-appreciated here, likely for similar reasons to Bouwmeester, being that they both play a quiet type of defense. And I agree with him (or her). I don't think Miromanov has been that bad, and I think we need to be patient. We also have to remember that he (like everyone on the team, pretty much), is being slotted higher in the lineup than they should be - and that can be very challenging for defensemen.

The Cheese is back!

The Kings seem to be sneaky good this season. Don't think anyone had them pegged to be atop the division at any point this season. Hoping for another solid effort by the Flames, but I'm pretty sure they'll lose tonight.

With the Prime broadcasts, is it possible to start watching from the beginning if you happen to be a little late, or is it live or nothing?

Yep - you can wind back as you join. Did that the other week when the (ugh) Greasers were playing to see "how it looked".

Found that the contrast was a bit high - at least on my TV - so that the ice was brilliant white, but the darks maybe a bit too dark...all compared to the usual muddy grey of most SN broadcasts. Other than that, though, it appeared to just be a regular SN feed, including ads, although the pre-post was Amazon's. Can't remember the intermezzo portions now though.

With Amazon having bought a bunch of Monday night broadcasts from SN, I guess that's not a bad thing...especially if, as is thought in some places, they will outbid everyone for the next TV deal.

I think Miromanov has been improving; he and Weegar were the best pair on this last road trip

Much as we all hate Sportsnet, this isn't their decision. NHL took $$$ to show games on Amazon Prime
