Oilers 4 Flames 2
Oilers 4 Flames 2
- Oilers get up two early
- Score the game winner on a late third period powerplay
- Calgary the better team in the last 2/3 of the game but can't get it done.

Pospisil needs to have his game simplified - put him on the 4th line with Lomberg and let them go. And Costco in over Rooney.
Bahl continues to develop - he is going to be a solid top 4 guy for many years.

Bahl is seriously much further ahead in his development than I thought when Calgary made the trade. I see him being one of the future leaders on D as he matures.

The better team lost tonight.
Thought Kuzmenko was really good after getting a swift kick in the pants.
Agree with Vladar having a rough start, but he made some really good saves to keep the Flames in it.

If by having a rough start you mean having the team start late, #### the bed in front of him, and have it cost them all together, yeah.
I’m sure he did not enjoy it, would not recommend, and would give the first few minutes 0 or 1 out of 10. But in terms of hanging it on him, I hope you are not doing that

The Flames give the puck away way too much. They seem to have a few set plays that others teams key on and easily pick off passes

I wish it was set plays. They just look like their decisions dang near fry their brains when making them. No imagination at all you know like their PP. So tired of the vets on this team and cannot wait till the deadline. I want to watch the future not under achieving floaters.

Mantha is just as advertised a floater who shows up once in awhile. Kuzmenko also deserves his rep. Skates but that is it and is to me a guy you get rid of when the first decent offer arrives. Then there are the under achievers like Huberdeau.
I would rather watch Zary and Popsicle all day long. Rather see Honzek and Klapka and on and on than them.

I wouldn't expect a huge change at the deadline. I assume Vladar and Kuzmenko will be either signed to extensions or traded.
Mantha and Barrie will likely be moved as well, but they won't bring much, if anything.
But you are correct, there should be a nice influx of some youth.
But I don't see a lot of floating. I think Calgary has been, more or less, putting in pretty good efforts in their games.
Their lack of success is more about their talent level than lack of effort.
They are still above .500. We cannot expect more than that.

Mantha maybe (but not last night, nor in the first few games). No one else can be described as floating.

When I mentioned the Flames set plays being predictable, the first and second goals by the Oilers comes to mind. On the first goal to Bahl ring it round the boards seems so predictable and the Oilers were all over it. Was Andersson supposed to get it or was it meant to go to the forward up the boards? In any event this seems to be a standard robotic play the flames use and opponents are all over it. On the second goal, another seemingly set play. The forward, Coleman?, bumps it back to the point and the Oilers are all over it because the Flames do this same thing all the time and back it goes the other way. Am I seeing this wrong?

Those are set plays every team does. Ringing it around the boards is much safer than passing it up the middle. He really had no other option.
