IIRC there's a deposit on it. But I also seem to recall hearing about a report on how tetra packs and juice boxes are the least recycled of the items that you can get the deposit back for.
https://www.calgary.ca/waste/what-go...k-pouches.html
If people aren't recycling these, then I assume maybe the odds are the same for a can/bottle.
Similar to mini cans, maybe something like Chubby Soda? I remember they were pretty awesome to have as a Kid, but I don't really remember much about them anymore.
https://www.extremesnacks.ca/product...DEqmzLzpJu4Uk5
$0.89 a bottle, free shipping over $99. But I also assume you'd look into other stuff you'd want for yourself, not spend $99 on stuff solely to hand out on Halloween?

i think my wife and i must be in minority, but our kids are 9 & 11 and neither have tried pop yet.
my wife knows some dentist that is opening an office up above our neighbourhood and the dentist wants to advertise on halloween - she is giving us a bunch of boxes of full size chocolate bars to give out with her business card taped to the bars. i said to my wife, "that's smart - she's creating work/clientele for herself!" ha!

Random... but I remember getting wheat crunch and corn nuts while trick or treating when I was a kid and I always thought they were awesome. If I was going to spend a little more on handing out stuff to kids, I'd totally consider getting these.
https://doschorganic.ca/product-category/wheat-crunch/
I ain't spending $60 for 99 of them tiny packages of wheat crunch nor reaching $125 before tax for free shipping though.

I've got a chart plotting kids and weather each year. So I've got a good idea of how much candy to buy. My problem this year is my wife really wants to go low-waste. Her suggestions is just to buy cans of pop, which can be recycled. My issue with that is as a parent I hate it when my young child gets a whole can of pop. That is just way too much to consume in one shot and it gets heavy to carry. On the other hand, the kids that are way too old to trick or treat love it.
|
Recyclable and low waste aren't really the same thing. There's a significant cost to recycling and even production of aluminum cans. On top of that cans come in flat with plastic.
You're probably better off with a larger chocolate bar.
Kids love the whole pops though.

I really hope you aren't going to miss this one opportunity to make something of this for their Halloween costumes.

Y'know what? Just buy the full sized pop. Make the kids happier for a full sized (you'll become a legendary house) and the kids become stronger lugging them around. Smart parents/kids bring a wagon to regularly offload. I don't think it's as big of an issue as originally considered.
In my family, we share cans of pop. I'm perhaps the only one who ever consumes a single can myself. Everyone else always pours into cups to consume. Worst case scenario, a kid drinks the whole thing. That just contributes to the epic Halloween stories of kids gorging on treats till they throw up scenario. It makes for a learning moment for the kids and a funny story to tell later on.
That is, unless the situation turns into one of those ####ty Tik Toks where the parents eat the kids candy and makes them cry. #### those people.

If I’m home, I give the kids the choice between chocolate bars or microwave popcorn. The popcorn is a hit.

I fire full cans of pop at children out of a re-purposed t-shirt cannon.
If you want a treat, the trick is...you're gonna have to catch it.
Otherwise....well...likely a concussion.

Not a fan of the full pop. Would feel weird dropping a can of coke into the plastic pumpkin of a 3 year old.
Mini chocolate bars are a safe go-to. You can adjust the number given as circumstances dictate.

Books and potatoes.
Lugging that weight around will be good for them.

I know you're joking, but is Calgary public pools still selling vouchers to distribute on Halloween you can use later to go swimming with your family?
Better than the book.
