Default Over/Under Performers Or Bang On

12 games in and here are my thoughts on the different players on the roster in terms of how they are performing compared to my expectations. Interested to see what others think.

Over performers:
- Andersson. Great start. Lots of offensive contributions.
- Vladar. I didn’t think he’s be as steady as he has been.
- Zary. Think he has taken another step. Needs to work on consistency.
- Kirkland. Came out of nowhere. Like found money.
- Huberdeau. Has looked better than last year. More engaged.
- Coronato. Seems to get better each game.
- Bahl. Did not know what to expect but he looks really solid lately.
- Pachal. I really like Pachal. Fairly steady. Very physical.
- Lomberg. Can’t believe it is the same guy who was here a few years ago.
- Honzek. Much better showing than I ever thought he would give.

Bang On:
- Wolf. Has come as advertised. Very calming in net.
- Weegar. Following up last year with another solid start.
- Backlund. Easily our most consistent player.
- Kadri. Generates a lot of offence. Struggles to put pucks in the net.
- Barrie. Has filled his role. Nothing flashy.
- Rooney. Not spectacular but fills his role.
- Bean. Don’t really notice him good or bad. So left him here.
- Pospisil. Wanted to put him in over performers except for dumb penalty issue.

Under Performers:
- Kuzmenzo. Thought he would have had more impact on the pp.
- Mantha. Really dropped off after the first game splash. Floats a lot. .
- Coleman. Hasn’t played poorly but not as much of an impact as last season.
- Miromanov. Still not sure what he is.
- Sharangovich. Injury obviously a big part of this. I think he will improve a lot soon.
- Hanley. Not a big fan.
- Klapka. Doesn’t seem to understand his role. Or can’t sustain it.

I think the two guys that could have the biggest impact are Kuzmenko in terms of getting the pp going and Sharangovich as he’s one of our only real snipers. If they can pick things up it will make a huge difference.

Mantha is on pace for 58 points. His career high is 48 and hasnt happened in over 5 years. I think overall, he's been fine although his hot start made people think he was going to put up a pace of 60-70 pt pace going into the deadline which I don't think was ever realistic. Belongs in over performers for me just slightly.

I think Rooney is easily replaceable and if he's not on the roster it frees up a spot on the roster for someone that could arguably be better suited in the NHL. His only saving grace is he's a centre. Belongs in under performers for me strictly because of this.

I think Coleman should be in the bang on section. He is a career 3rd liner and if hes putting up .5 PPG while taking on defensive responsibilities which he is should meet expectations easily.

Huberdeau deserves to be in the bang on section. Anyone expecting anything more than he's shown as a Flame so far is probably kidding themselves at this point. Great attitude though.

Kadri for me has underperformed this year. Single handedly responsible for that one OT loss and hasn't generated enough especially on the power play.

I think the rest is fair.

Was just gonna say this...guy is outperforming his contract.

Sample size. Huberdeau was outperforming his contract after a 4 point game. Couple of pointless games and Mantha is back at square 1

Mantha is low risk and the bar is low. He’d have to be really bad to underperform it

But it’s too early for any parades, we are not at the quantity of games where many stats are meaningful

Dougie Hamilton was hot garbage for his first 20 games

Because he was really hot in the first three games

Maybe I’m being harsh but I don’t think there’s many if any that have out performed. Yes Zary has taken another step but needs to put up more points to be over perform. I guess Anderson has been way better offensively. Probably be the only guy I would think about putting on out perform. Kadri has been very underwhelming this year so far.

I think Kadri has been way worse this year (but maybe on par with his first year).

But overall it's heard to gauge because of the hot start versus the blah last few games. A similar thread after 4-5 games had the whole team overperforming.

I think we need a larger sample size, at least 1/3 of the season

Andersson is the only guy that is really out-performing my expectations. I didn't know what to expect from him this season given what we saw last season, but he has been awesome and the Flames single best player.

Playing much better than I expected:
- Andersson - #2/3D > Top pairing D
- Wolf - backup > decent tendem goalie (and a future starter)
- Vladar - below average backup > decent tendem goalie
- Honzek - AHL middle 6 forward > NHL middle 6 forward
- Kirkland - carrer AHLer > decent 4th line C

Exceed expectations:
- Bahl - #4/5D > solid top 4 stay at home D
- Pachal - #6/7D > #5D
- Lomberg - perfect fit for the 4th line

Meet expectations:
Backlund, Coleman, Zary, Pospisil, Coronato, Huberdeau, Mantha, Rooney, Klapka, Weegar, Miromanov, Bean, Barrie, Hanley

Below expectations:
Kadri - Needs to get back to what made him our best forward last year
Kuzmenko - Not creating as much offense as I thought he would, last game was a great sign.
Sharangovich - A little snake bitten, hopefully he starts putting up a bunch more points

All the below expectations forwards will probably meet my expectations as soon as our PP starts clicking.

What? who is planning parades...we are judging all these players on the games played thus far. So far he has been full value...he had him in "underperformed" which is silly unless you are expecting PPG or something

For me, that's not too far off, except for Coleman. Think he's been somewhere between Bang On and Overperform. He never takes a shift off, and although not scoring, he is leading the "work ethic" brigade by example.

Kadri is in some kind of a funk it seems...sometimes holds the puck WAY too long and seems very unsure of what to do/where to go...so I place him lower, between Bang On and Underperform. Doesn't seem to be able to pick up his game right now.

And, for what it's worth...I'm OK with the Flames as they are this year...seems like teaching the young guys how to play well and maybe tanking...or maybe not...is just fine. I'd rather they learn good habits personally.
