some interesting roster decisions to be made soon
I'd guess Kirkland, Klapka, and maybe Honzek are the top candidates to go to the Wranglers. Coronato as well.
The guys in the lineup should feel the pressure and motivation to keep their spots.

I don't think it's impossible that Rooney is the one that goes down. I think he's now in a battle with Kirkland to keep his spot.

Honzek should go down.

No reason to work a young rookie coming off an injury into the pro lineup when you have waiver eligibility for him.

Let him go down, find his legs and regain some confidence at the AHL level

I know having rookies up is the most fun and exciting, but when Sharangovich is back, Coronato and Honzek aren’t in the top 9. I don’t think it’s bad if they both go down, they’ll both be back up when there’s an injury/trade. I would be okay if they moved Sharangovich into Coronatos current spot and had Rooney as the 13th forward when everyone’s healthy.

While I don't disagree with you, Rooney is a nature center who would need to clear waivers. Guessing the Flames don't take that risk after losing Schwindt plus the apparent desire to add center depth

I think Honzek will be sent down once he is healthy. I think the main reason he was up to begin with was to replace Sharangovich in the top 6 and would have been sent down once Sharangovich was ready unless he was lighting it up. He didn't look bad in the 4 games he played, but to me he looked a tad over his head. Which you would expect as the jump from junior to the NHL is big and he missed a lot of time with injuries over the past couple of years. I'd rather see him get some production in the AHL, then maybe see him called back up later in the season.

Kirkland has earned more NHL games and I think he is here for good this season unless he completely drops off. Rooney is the guy that pushes him out, but it shouldn't be given at this point.

Lego man will be a big boost to the Flames up front.

The defense has had to carry the mail offensively, which is honestly impressive that they have as well as they have.

I feel like it will be Honzek going down, and Id say Hanley should go down with how well Kirkland has been playing. I see no reason to have him in the roster if we have Barrie already

I wouldn't be moving Coronato off of Kadri's line. Since he has been there, that line has been dominating possession (for the most part, obviously everyone looked ####ty against Pitts).

Before he got hurt Honzek was looking super confident and like a bonafide NHL player but I agree with you, he should go down. He's 19 and has alot of body to fill in and get stronger. No rush here

Yeah I'd send Honzek down for a spell with the Wranglers. it's definitely not a case of Honzek playing poorly enough to get sent down, but more just other guys playing their way into the team combined with the balancing act of filling specific roles in the lineup.

It's a good problem to have. The ice time and playing in a top 6 position will be good for his development.

Bit of a side tangent, but historically I've never paid too much attention to what's going on with the farm team but over the last couple seasons I've been paying closer and closer attention to the Wranglers, I think a big part of that was following Wolf's progression & because they're playing in Calgary but I think it also says a lot about the direction of this franchise.

He's in Sharangovich's probable spot; where would you put Sharky?

I think the plan all along was to have Honzek split time with the Flames and Wranglers this season.

Coronato I can see staying up though.

Kirkland, unfortunately will probably go down if the choices are Rooney, Klapka or him.

It's good news. I heard Derek Wills mention that Sharangovich is 2-3 weeks away this morning, but they won't know for sure until he hits the ice. Maybe today's practice left the team optimistic.

Honestly doubt Honzek making the team was part of any plan.

Sustainable or not, I've seen more out of Kirkland in a handful of games than I've seen out of Rooney in 2 years. If the team truly wants to set a culture, sending Rooney down here would be the way to go.

I agree, no chance Rooney is waived at this point. Kirkland has been solid but he is what he is. A easily replaceable 4th liner. Wouldn't be surprised if he was sent down since he doesn't have to clear waivers again.

Honzek probably should go down. He wasn't exactly lighting it up after training camp and this injury kind of shows he's not quite there physically yet.

More to gain by playing top line minutes and driving a PP in the AHL than the role he's likely to settle with in Calgary this season.

There's almost no chance Rooney is claimed (especially with his cap hit) so there's very little risk. You can also claim some other scrub off waivers at some point if you do by some chance lose him.

IIRC he was waived last season once too and nobody wanted him.
