Default The visions of Iran's President

Maybe not the most unbiased translation but an interesting read nonetheless, the Iranian president telling us how he was wrapped in a green glow while addressing the United Nations.

"On the last day when I was speaking, one of our group told me that when I started to say 'Bismillah Muhammad,' he saw a green light come from around me, and I was placed inside this aura," he says. "I felt it myself. I felt that the atmosphere suddenly changed, and for those 27 or 28 minutes, all the leaders of the world did not blink. When I say they didn't move an eyelid, I'm not exaggerating. They were looking as if a hand was holding them there, and had just opened their eyes – Alhamdulillah!"

Ahmadinejad's "vision" at the U.N. is strangely reminiscent and alarmingly similar to statements he has made about his personal role in ushering in the return of the #####e Muslim messiah.

He sees his main mission, as he recounted in a Nov. 16 speech in Tehran, as to "pave the path for the glorious reappearance of Imam Mahdi, may Allah hasten his reappearance."
According to #####es, the 12th imam disappeared as a child in the year 941. When he returns, they believe, he will reign on earth for seven years, before bringing about a final judgment and the end of the world.

Iran abruptly left Vienna today without attending an International Atomic Energy Commission meeting where it was supposed to explain its decision to resume its nuclear program.

Well I for one am relieved to hear that a guy who has mystical visions of aurae while addressing the United Nations is continuing to develop nuclear weapons. What fun are nukes if you are sane, I say!

Odd story run in the Herald yesterday, picked up from the Telegraph.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.../05/wcia05.xml

The latest account of American intelligence failures includes details of how the CIA allegedly tried to slip Teheran some Russian designs for an atomic bomb, which contained hidden flaws that would have made any device inoperable.

The Iranians, however, were tipped off by the very agent sent to give them the documents.

I don't know how true it is or if the source can be trusted but it's a good read.

As for that wacky Iranian president, shouldn't the others be getting embarassed by this character yet and planning his ouster/death? I hope so.

I don't think he represents the views of the majority of muslims. Your reaction is proof of that.

He's the leader of an islamic theocracy. Extreme belief is kind of a pre-requisite for the job.

I've spoken with a few Muslims, no Iranians, but an Afghani or two and they also say that the Iranian President is crazy.

He is using these things to take advantage of the poor and pious in his country which elected him.

To be clear, he was elected out of a list of candidates approved by the Mullahs who are the power behind the scenes . . . . so you can't really say he represents the views of the majority of Iranians because you don't really know.

However, it would be a fair observation that he would have garnered tens of millions of votes in that country of roughly, I think, about 85 million people. He does have a certain audience there and you can't simply dismiss him as being just a strange Muslim without any support.

Frankly, his strange and very regular public pronouncements are actually helping America raise the alarm bells vis-a-vis Iran. They couldn't have a better wingnut helping them. . . . . . that is, if it helps something eventually get done.
