Default Canes 4 Flames 2

Canes 4 Flames 2

- Solid road game from the Canes
- Vladar solid in net
- Flames push and erase a 3-0 deficit but can't find the tying goal
- Huberdeau and Bean with the goals

Vladar looked injured at the end there. Seemed to struggle skating to the bench on the EN.

He said he was cramping and he is fine.

Pachal is an RFA at the end of his deal too. I agree - he's been solid. I had no idea who this guy was until the Flames picked him up - and generally I feel like I know something about most of the league. Bahl, Pachal and Miromanov all showing signs of being good pick ups. If 2 out of the 3 work out - that's great.

And while it's still early, Bahl continues to stand out to me. You can see why he played in all 82 games for the Devils. He's just solid.

You have to give Huberdeau credit for continuing to play in the dirty areas this season. He likely isn't going to reach the heights he was meant to here, but if he's at least getting a bit greasy and playing hard you can live with it.

Vladar is looking better with each game. Some interesting stats (GA, GAA, S%):

Wolf..........: 7, 2.30, .936
Vladar......: 11, 2.73, .904
Markstrom: 22, 3.15, .891

Since the 1st period of the VAN game...

Vladar.......: 7, 1.89, .930

The Flames have been determined, and hard working, this season, but goaltending has been their been attribute by a significant margin, and has covered up a lot of other warts.

Bahl is only slightly slow, but has excellent lateral mobility for a guy his size.

His stick play/positioning is very good too.

Just a great prototypical 4-5 D man. Excellent pickup. Could develop to a good top 3 guy in a year or two with more experience.

Martin Pospisil is so frigging good at driving the puck in the right direction. It's mind boggling at how good he is at getting, taking back, carrying, passing and controlling the puck.

Nothing in his draft profile or play profile before he got to the NHL indicated how good he would be. If Zary moves to a different line and you put Martin on with Backlund and Coleman, lookout. No one would want to play against that line in any zone.

Bahl and Pachal have been the surprises of the season for me. Didn’t look like the team had an NHL defense corps going into the season.

Miromonov is the biggest unhappy surprise for me. It's very early, but he just looks "uncomfortable" out there. They're try to play at a faster pace this year; maybe that is forcing him to struggle early on this season.

I still think Miromanov should be paired with someone more defensive. As should Weegar.

Pachal - Weegar
Bean - Miromanov

I wouldn't be surprised to see that first pairing, at a minimum, but with Pachal on the right side.
