Larkin cap makes sense given Seider signed a 7 year contract. Adding an 8th year would have probably caused his salary to be over Larkin’s amount

It's a good deal for Detroit.

TBH not quite sure why Seider / Raymond both didn't try to take a bridge. Seems like they potentially sold low on their prime years a little bit.

This seems like a great deal. Hopefully, we are paying Parekh this much in a few years

This contract seems fine, but Yzerman has been in place for over 5 years now.... and his work in Detroit probably has to be some of the most unimpressive work around the NHL.

Since joining the Red Wings as GM in in April of 2019:

2019 6th Overall: Moritz Seider
2020 4th Overall: Lucas Raymond
2020 32nd Overall: William Wallinder
2021 6th Overall: Simon Edvinsson
2021 15th Overall: Sebastian Cossa
2022 8th Overall:: Marco Kasper
2023 9th Overall: Nate Danielson
2023 17th Overall: Aex Sandin-Pellika
2024 15th Overall: Michael Brandsegg-Nygard

This is why the Flames need to bottom. This is what you get when you don't bottom out. Does anyone look at those 5 bad years of Red Wings hockey and think they're rounding the corner to true contender level?

Kasper and Danielson are his centres.
Seider, Edvinsson, Wallinder, Sandin-Pellika are his defence.
Raymond, Brandsegg-Nygard are his wingers.
Cossa is his goalie.

I don't see a championship foundation in there.

You gotta bottom out and you also need some lottery luck. Detroit didn't win any lotteries, tried to push out of the basement early and now they're probably stuck as a bubble team for the foreseeable future

Don't say that or you will be called a hater.

Holland obviously left him with crap, but he hasn't exactly cleaned it up.

With the Flames, Treliving left Conroy with a big pile of crap and remarkably he has been able to put us in great position. Cap wise and draft capital wise.

Well this is probably the absolute upper limit for Andersson’s next contract at least.

I love when Dmen sign their contracts and you can immediately hold it up to Nurse's contract and immediately start laughing at the Oilers.

Interesting that he only did 7 years. Edmonton schill Gregor was saying how it could be 10 or higher AAV the other day...obviously using Nurse as his benchmark.

His free agent signings have been bad, but drafting has been excellent, to get Seider/Raymond outside the top 3 is very good work. You just don't need to bottom out, you need lottery luck and have a true superstar there when you win the lottery. Or else you get a Lafreniere or Slafkovsky.

Disagree. As someone else pointed out (Sandman?) they have almost no hits after the 1st round, which is where teams need to hit to be successful.

Not sure how that can be determined already , he has been there five years and picks after the first round typically take a while to make it.

Any contract that makes the Darnell Nurse contract look even more insane is fine by me.

Dunno if I'd go that far. I mean sure I don't see a top league superstar there but I see a bunch of potential high end players with well rounded games... get some much better goaltending and another d-man and I could see them having the potential to do it. I mean the 2019 Blues did it.

By looking at his track record.

In Tampa:
2010 (although he had just been hired) 3rd round pick Gudas was in the NHL 3 seasons later
2011: Kucherov in the NHL 3 seasons later
7th round Palat 2 seasons later
2012: 4th round pick Paquette full-time in NHL 3 seasons later.
2014: Point in the NHL 3 seasons later
2015: Cirelli in the NHL 3 seasons later
4th rounder Mathieu Joseph 4 seasons later

Meanwhile with Detroit:
2018 (Not really his draft) Berggren after the 1st round only NHLer, and he only played 12 games last year, and 53 in the AHL
2019: Only Soderblom after the 1st round has played NHL games (21)
2020: No one after the 1st round has even played NHL games. Wallinder and maybe Viro the only possibilities, I think
2021: no one after the 1st round has played NHL games, although a few are still prospects (Cossa, Mazur, Buium)
2022-2024 - still too early, but how many are trending well? Anton Johansson? Trey Augustine?
