Love that move by the caps. Vrana was pretty solid there, hope he’s able to get things back on track

I think the Flames bring in a couple of PTOs, if for anything else to give some competition to the youngsters.

Nah. I think its like last year. Conroy doesn't bring in any PTOs, the AHL guys serve as their own competition.

Yeah I'd stay way from PTO's this year. Plenty of competition in-house among the young guys.

I'd stay away unless I thought a PTO could turn into a one year contract and a 3rd round pick at the deadline.

I'd offer some PTOs to some undrafted or unsigned prospects, mostly for the farm. Someone like Jake Sloan or Oliver Tulk.

I wouldn't waste time with veterans at this point though.

Always seems like there's a few PTOs every year to help meet the veteran requirement for preseason. I assume sometimes GMs are helping out guys who share agents with players on the team, as PTOs often end up signing elsewhere.

Would the Flames offer Mark Giordano a PTO?

Would make sense. He can rotate in and out of the 6D slot while mentoring the young guys. Say 30 - 40 games played.

Only thing is he has zero chance to win here so I imagine he'd hold out as long as possible for a more competitive team to offer anything.

The only UFA's that I see that would have some upside is Yamamoto or Addison.

I'd be okay with this. We could use some leadership on the back end, although there's a plethora of defensemen already competing for spots as is. Gio retiring as a Flame would be terrific.

Gio on a PTO seems rife with issues.

First thats a ####ty way to treat a former captain, Norris winner and possible candidate for jersey retirement down the road.

Second, as the former captain that was his team and his room It wouldn't be that anymore. While I'm sure he'd handle it well it may be awkward especially for a guy like Backlund.

Third, he wasn't good any more. He just wasn't. Less and less ice time and it was warranted in TO.

Giordanos time here on the ice is done. Doesn't move the needle. No thank you.

What if Gio says "Hey, I'm hoping to land a contract and I'd love to come to Calgary on a PTO to show off to someone that I can still have value in the NHL"? Is that treating him bad to accommodate him? Some players seek PTOs to prove to more than just the team giving the PTO that they deserve a contract.

Would be a feel good story for sure given the fact that this could be a challenging season for the team. At least the fans could get some satisfaction watching the former captain rejoin the team.

He's also a guy that consistently came in at the top of fitness testing. Having guys like him and weegar to help show the younger guys the ropes could be pretty valuable.

Players seek out PTOs. He knows the organization well and Calgary would be one of the first places for him to ask if they're giving out any PTOs this year so not exactly an imaginary scenario but go ahead and be a jerk about it.
