Askarov and you shall receive. If I didn’t want picks so badly, I’d want the Flames to grab him. But it’s the Wolf era. Oilers trade all of their 2026 picks and a prospect for him?

I don't understand this trade request unless the Predators were not allowing him to compete for the backup position. He's 22 years old and has played in 3 NHL games so clearly hasn't done enough to expect that he should be starting in the NHL next season. Nashville seems like a good place for a young goaltender to move up through the ranks.

Obviously feels like he should be a starter. You’re bang on in terms of him being in the right place. They seem to pump out solid goalies there.

This makes a ton of sense for Askarov actually. The guy could probably make a lot more in the KHL than the AHL. The Preds either keep him in the NHL, or trade him to a team that will.

I don't think that the Preds will like that too much, but he is a great trade chip. A team like Washington always comes to mind when it comes to Russians, but I don't think they have the assets to get him.

Agreed. Washington needs a goaltender of the future, and getting a Russian helps keep Ovi happy.

But there are quite a few teams that need help:
Anaheim
Carolina
Chicago
Columbus
Edmonton
LA
Minnesota
Pittsburgh
Seattle
San Jose

I bet all of these teams are calling up. The bottom feeders probably aren't going to offer their best since they need picks and prospects to rebuild, but teams like Carolina and Edmonton would probably be desperate and offer hefty deals as they retool.

Why is it the right place? It’s not like they develop a ton of goalies.

They had Rinne in the fold from 2008 onwards, and eased Saros in a decade later when Rinne hit his mod-late 30s. Saros is now locked up for 9 more years (this season plus an 8 year extension) at #1 money and they are good to play him 65ish games

They signed Wedgewood this UFA day for 2 years

Seems like both the short term and long term opportunities are not that enticing

Although Nashville, rightly or wrongly, seem to be in win-now mode. They probably wouldn't be looking for picks or prospects.

I don't know? They definitely seem to be in win now, but if Askarov is in fact a generational goaltending talent, and he's a luxury item on the bench most games, I could see Nashville looking for picks/prospects to either use for future trade bait, or for sustainability purposes. Personally I see them as a pretender vs. a serious contender, so if I were them I'd want a kings ransom of young talent to create a sustainable contender year after year. Though I'm not sure goaltenders tend to return much, as we all know.

Flames should make an offer here. Vladdar plus plus.

Run with two of the best goalie prospects on the planet, and see who rises to the top.

If the price is right, sure. I'm not that confident on Wolf, simply based on his size. We haven't seen anyone like him in the league in modern day. He's a wildcard. Does it make sense to potentially burn one guy in a zero sum game situation? Not sure. I'd rather get Askarov and deal Wolf (just me).

Will be interesting to see what the cost ends up being. I am guessing 1st+ as a base.

I'm with Enoch on this. Flames should be in the middle of this like crazy. You build up the middle and having a future tandem of Askarov and Wolf with Sergeev, Yegorov, and Zarubin in the wings is pretty sick depth. Tons of guys on the blue line with big upside, this is the foundation going forward and allows the team to take some really big cuts at high skill forwards.

It makes total sense for Askarov. They signed a veteran backup goalie to a 2 year deal worth 3 million and have saros signed for the next 9 years. Sure he is still young but also doesn't look like there will be much opportunity in at least the next 2 years and with saros there long term then it makes sense for him to move on.

The writing is on the wall. I don't blame him one bit.

What would you be willing to give up to get him? I think the Canes will make a pretty big push. The Devils could as well.

I wonder if he is part of the deal that Sec214 is talking about.

Laine to Nashville and Askarov to Columbus being some of the pieces in a bigger deal..

What? The guy who is blocking Askarov is whom a lot of people compare Wolf to and you can't find a modern day comparison?

If we trade for him, we will have the most entertaining goalie personalities.
Wolf's start of the game leap
Askarov bench pressing the net after a win.

Get Fleury to mentor them and provide them with even more ideas to try out
