Canada is in a tough group.

Should be fun. 2nd biggest tourney Canada has played in in my lifetime - feel like I'm getting a bit spoiled lately that I'm not even that amped for it, 10 years ago my mind would have been blown.

Wonder what the crowds will be like for this... Am surprised they didn't place Canada's group at BMO, am sure would have resulted in a sold out group and am wondering if that many people will really come out for a game like Canada Peru in Kansas

I don't think it's that difficult of a group. Peru are always meh and Chile are rebuilding after their golden generation. Neither qualified for Qatar 2022.

If it was 4 hour drive instead of 8, I would probably be one.
If I really wanted to go, flights are $220 return
Amazing ticket(s) for $110

Basically same ticket in Florida vs Argentina in Atlanta listed at $1100

If Canada gets 1 point it’s meeting expectations in my book. Give good account of yourself and don’t get blown out and try and nick a point off someone. I think people are really underestimating the strength of the South American sides and people saying 4+ points (no one here but there’s lots of that chatter online) I think are absolutely insane. I’d love to see it, I’ll be cheering for it, but let’s start with a point

I'm thinking a loss against Argentina, a likely loss against Chile, and a draw against Peru. I'd be happy with a tie to get that point as well. I think the goal of this tournament is to show we can put up a fight and compete with the big boys.

Also just saw that Qatar is ranked 15 spots higher than we are. That's definitely something.

#### it, I'm going all in, who cares - three straight wins. Canada spanks Argentina, Saudi Arabia-style.

Unfortunately I see Canada will be 3 and done.... Trudeau doesn't have the buying power of the Saudi prince.

Fantastic additions, I brought those guys up in the CMNT thread. Ahmed has some dynamic wing play and Russel-Rowe is becoming quite the stud in MLS.

Expectation can't be just being happy to be there. They shouldn't have had to play an extra game to get there, and, are likely in future world cups with the expanded format.

That said not expecting anything results wise, just hope they continue to learn Marsch's system and develop for 2026. Could they win one and draw one? Sure. But I'm leaning towards a draw maybe vs Peru, a tough loss to Chile, and a good effort but ultimate fodder for Argentina with the most amount of world eyes a CMNT has had on it, in a long time.

Davies named as our new captain today. Now I hope we don’t stick him at left back in a 442 and make him defend 85 minutes a game in this tournament.

Looking forward to the game today, hoping they bring the same effort as the performance vs France.

Canada vs Argentina to start off a Copa America is not something I thought I would read. Great opportunity for Canada to make a statement vs the World Cup holders. Will need a monumental effort

For someone without cable is the the only (legitimate) way to watch this getting a TSN streaming subscription?

I hate the new world - OneSoccer for Cavalry and sometimes Canada, Sportsnet for Flames and for some damn reason still paying to watch the Oilers lose, now TSN for other Canada and Euro.

Yes unfortunately

Also couple that in with needing Fubo Tv to watch premier league and DAZN to watch champions league. It’s ridiculous

We're all aware that the most likely outcome of tonight is that Canada is going to get absolutely tuned right?

Yes but you never know

Being the opening game Canada may be able to get an Argentina that is not in rhythm yet. While losing is probably the most likely outcome if Canada is even competitive in this game that would be something to build on.

I think Argentina can beat Canada even only with their backups.

Canada's mission was to score a goal at the last World Cup, for this tournament? Getting a draw would be great.

Argentina is notorious for starting slow and losing opening games though. Kind of like Italy. They haven't won their opening match of a major tournament since beating Bosnia in the 2014 World Cup.

2015 Copa, draw first game (Paraguay), Runners-up
2018 World Cup, drew first game (Iceland), Round of 16
2019 Copa, lost first game (Colombia), finished 3rd
2021 Copa, drew their first game (Chile), won the title
2022 World Cup, lost their first game (Saudi Arabia), won the title

and if you want to go back farther, they lost to Cameroon in 1990 and lost to Belgium in 1982 (both times they were defending champs)

so fully expect them to lose their first game in World Cup 2026
